Hey All,
I have just recently discovered these forums, and found that I like them, so here goes my first post.
I have played piano for about 9 years, and have played proffessionally (translated: "For cash") for 3 years. I have a self-built PC on which I run Logic Platinum 5 (live forever.) I use Logic along with my Fatar SL-1100 (88 key keyboard with hammer action resulting in a decent touch) for recording my piano playing as well as writing original orchestral music. I have experimented with various branches of techno for fun and profit (I've sold two songs to a web developer.) Almost all of my music is made from VSTs. I use an M-audio Delta 44.
That's where I'm coming from. Up until this point I have used an old Aiwa home theater system as my monitors. I've decided to take care of that problem by purchasing a pair of B2031s (Not the A's) off of Musician's Friend. I've read a small portion of the controversy these speakers (and this company) has in the mind of some. Taking my situation (need speakers) and circumstances (poor and going to college where HR824s aren't sacred to roomates) into account, the B2031s seem like a good bang for my buck. Additionally, I have mixed on a friend's B2031s and realy like the flatness of the sound. That said, I am planning to purchase these along with a UB1202 (I compared the 502 and the 1202 and there was a strange difference in sound quality) and some cables.
The one issue lingering in my mind is cables. I've been researching these and have not been able to make sense of what's appropriate. I know that if I followed the advice of many here, I could easily spend a few hundred on cables. However, I would then have spent more than I have on my speakers and mixer. I'm looking for a good balance in quality and price as it relates to the speakers and system I have. I'm really not familiar with any brands besides monster cable, and I fear getting banned if I purchase some of those!
I have one 2 meter Studio Link 500 Interconnect 1/4" - 1/4" cable I bought a while back for connecting a keyboard to a DI box. I need a total of four 1/4" cables to connect my new mixer and monitors to my Delta. What cables should I get that match the quality of my system pretty well? Ideally I'd like to spend $70 or less to get 3 cables, (one 2 meter and two 3 meters.) I'll replace the Monster Cable only if I really need to.
I plan to order the Behringers this weekend so any advice given today will be much appreciated.
