hey all, i've been here for a while, and i've seen these collaborations...now my question is, my brother lives FAR away, and he wants to try this because he just got into recording...So, how do you guys send eachother your fiels? Like i'd send him a guitar/drum track and he'd do bass...but how do we send the files, when they're like 50+ megs each? I don't want to compress to MP3 bc then the quality sucks..any help?

Even if you use a file compression utility like Monkey audio you would still be looking at a file of around 25meg - too big to email! If you want to use electronic transfer then it'll have to be MP3 or similar.
Or you could mail a CD or Zip disk?

Best thing to do is just mail a CD. It is best when dealing with separate tracks to burn a data disk rather than music disk.

yeah i was afraid that'd be the response i'd get...heh it'd probably take weeks to get it perfect then lol, oh well, thanks anyway guys :D

sending files

you need to use FTP file transfer proticol, easy to set up, and ive sent 300 meg files this way.... do a google search and you will find all the info you need....

do anything you can but DONT comprss to mp3 lousy quality....

Actually, I have recorded a bunch of stuff back and forth on MP3 format and if you are careful, they don't sound too bad.
Let me know and I'll post some stuff so you can here what the Mr-8 can do!

Although it will probably be easiest to send files via ftp or snail mail, you can still use mp3 to transfer files back and forth for getting basic ideas communicated. Each of you could simply record your final parts against the mp3 transferred from the other, and then when all the final parts from each of you are complete, simpy swap cds via snail mail. This is the approach I typically take.

hey

thats pretty good, i dont think of things that way sometimes, but that woud work pretty well , it elimintaed the use of compressed files in the final mix...

Agreed. FTP is the way to go.

Do your transfers over night.

Let the mailman worry about junk mail... :)
