Hey Guys.

I'm currently recording through a series of mixers which use the "pan" knobs to control which channels input into which of my TWO interface inputs into my computers. That is, I have many mics and inputs, but they're all being mixed down to two channels into the soundcard.

Obviously a very limiting factor. I want to upgrade my studio to have 8 or 16 inputs into the computer simultaneously... I'm curious as to what would be a good but affordable solution to this problem. Are their 8/16 track mixing boards which also serve as audio interfaces? I'm visualizing a multitrack mixing board which USBs directly into a computer as a soundcard as well. Does that exist, or do I have to get both a multi-in-out mixing board and a multi-input interface and wire them parallel.

thanks for the help!
Jay.

It does exist and it's firewire.

You can read about it here and let me know if you have additional questions.

Thanks for your reply, looks awesome! I don't think I have a firewire jack on my PC... is there a firewire USB converter or a simple way to implement one?

I haven't heard of a USB/Firewire converter...

If you have a PCI slot you can add a firewire card for $20.
