Hi. I have a question about interfaces. I'm trying to buy one real soon and I just don't know which one to pick. I guess my price range is around 200 I guess? I would consider going over if the features and quality are worth it. Heres my setup. I've got a Rode NT1-A mic, an electric guitar, a MIDI keyboard, and maybe some other things, but other than that I just wanna use re interface to record.

Exactly what am I looking for in an interface? I was considering these two.

M-Audio Fast Track Pro
Mackie Blackjack

Anything you guys would consider around 200?

I've read some reviews on tbe mackie and it seems like the quality and especially the sound on the blackjack is way better then the average fast track pro. But the thing is it doesn't have an midi in. Is there anyway to fix that? I know there are different types of cables right? Maybe an.midi to a xlr? And does it also have ts inputs? For instruments?

That's why I'm kind of leaning more towards the fast track pro. For its ports, but I've heard the mackie sounds amazing and has better preamps. What else am I looking for in a preamp?
What recording software do they come with? Do both feature effects and maybe lets say... Like a drum mod where I can add drums on the computer?

No such thing as MIDI to XLR. MIDI is sending digital commands and XLR is sending analog audio. They are two completely different things. You could, however, get a MIDI to USB cable and work your MIDI keyboard that way.

Have you checked out the Focusrite Saffire 6 or the Emu 0404? They both seem like they would fit your needs.

Seems the Allen and Heath don't include DAW software, nice piece of gear though, especially if you have the software. For the price I'd also look into The Tascam US1641. Very nice, a little more than the A&H (about 30 bucks) but it comes with Cubase. Just giving another option to consider.

"How much better is the pre amp on the blackie and will you notice the difference?" is the question. There will be more variables to be concerned about before the quality of the converters or pre amps come into play. If you want to use midi, then you should get an interface with midi. For drums, consider something like ezdrummer, addictive drums or Steven Slate.
