hi

i own a shure sm7b and always used it for vocal recording threw my m-audio fast track pro. Im a screamer so gain was never a big problem but obviously the quality was not the best. Now the m-audio broke and i need to get a new interface and i want to get a decent preamp also. My price range is only around 600 bucks. I was thinking to buy another cheap interface 150$ range like my old m-audio and add a focusrite isa one or something in that range, but i got told that it really woudnt b worth to get a good preamp and such a cheap interface. Would i b better off getting a fairly decent preamp/interface like the Saffire Pro 40?

My question pretty much is what would be the best deal in the 600 range for rap and screamed vocals with a shure sm7b mic.

I do music for a long time but have barley technical experience.

thanks

If you are a loud singer, then pretty much any interface with 60db of gain will be adequate. Whether that preamp truly gives the mic justice, is left for speculation. I use a Tascam interface that runs the mic at decent level, but nothing in comparison to what the mic can do with my Vintech X73i through my US 1641. Though, that is a big jump in price to get that. I have heard great things about using a GAP 73 ($500 ish), with a line in of any interface. Though I myself have not used one.

Oh, and welcome to the forum! :D

thx for the reply.....if i could get decent results with a cheap interface and the ISA ONE i would go for it and upgrade the interface at a different point.
but from what i have heared it is not the case. So i thought i might as well get a decent interface like the saffire 40 and add the ISA ONE to it at a different time.

also the gain is not a problem for me as a screamer but i also record other people so i deff need enough gain.

It kinda depends on how cheap you are talking about. Most DA converters these days in the below $800 mark, don't seem to show much improvement in my experience. It is the preamps in them that can give varied results. If you are using a decent preamp through a line input of an interface, you are basically only using the converters. You can use a cheap interface, but make sure it has a line level input, not just a 1/4" jack that runs through a preamp.

i was originally thinking of getting an interface in the 100-150 dollar range and the focusrite isa one preamp.
but if should get better results with a good interface/preamp like the focusrite saffire pro 40 than i rather go this way.
Thats pretty much my dilemma

Go one better and get the digital option on the isa and a cheap interface with a digital input.
If all you need is one good channel, that might be the way forward.

What is the deal? And how can I get it? lol

A good deal is a good deal. Taking advantage of one is always a good thing.

Hey Jimmy just my ISA ONE with a Blue Bluebird for $599.00 That was a good deal, I hope :listeningmusic:
