my wife's brothers son, who we see maybe 3 times a year, 16 now, has expressed interest in playing guitar. While they were here this summer I checked out my pal who dabbles in the used instrument area (he got me my D28) to see what he had going. I had a 200.00 limit. Not much, right. Well David (my friend) had this Wasburn D13N which he told me was in a series of acoustics made to match the Martin D line. This was a copy of Martin's D18. A pretty little box with the herringbone trim around the hole and body. Good action, stayed in tune , etc. Excellent hardshell case too. Anyway, I ramble, sorry. But I though you folks might like to hear what this little box sounds like. Surprising. David set it up, and put on some strings, a good clean job, and I laid down these tracks this morning. 2 guitar tracks using the Washburn and a bass track.

Sounds like you got a sweet deal, that $200 guitar sounds pretty nice. And this is a beautiful little piece, I'm really enjoying it. I feel like going and sitting by a lake. Great job:D

hey B,
thanks, I think this will make a great starter acoustic box.

Don't get the kid a guitar. He may end up like us.

sounds really good. I love stuff like this. My first guitar wasn't even tuned correctly for the first 2 years that I had it, b/c nobody in my family knew anything at all about music. BTW - if anybody ever needs something played in "Open A" tuning (which doesn't exist), I'm yer man.

Back to you...this is cool. Thanks for sharing it.

Nice.....................a good sounding guitar.....maybe a little bright.
But more than that,.....a nice piece of music. I drifted off to somewhere about halfway through this. Damn! And that's just you screwing around with this guitar? I'm selling my ax.

For $200 that ain't half bad sounding. And the tune is pretty damn cool too.

Hey fellows,

I wish I had one like this when i started. I had a Stella Star.

Jitteringjim, where you been man. I know this kids old man don't want him to turn out like us, being as I'm screwing his sister. hehehehehehehe

chris, thanks man, open "a", eh.

Lt., it is a little bright, after headphoning the Martin so much and then headphoning this one I thought something broke off. he he he, sell my ax, you shit, music is life.

Track, hey guy, and when Dav through the case in it really became a deal.

thanks dudes, later

Of course, memories of JamFest '02 showed that you're quite a player!! Many people who aren't musicians don't really recognize the value of starting with a half-decent instrument. Having taught privately for a number of years, I have encountered a good number of students who have almost quit as a result of an inferior instrument that was, as a result, nearly impossible to play, and caused a tremendous amount of undue frustration. I'm sure he appreciates your help now, but will appreciate it even more so in the future.

Cheers DTB!

hey Chris,

you da man. yeah, I think if every person that started playing guitar could have had a decent box from the start, there'd be even more pickers out there. I still laugh a little when someone tells me they tried playing but quit cause it hurt their fingers. he he he he he he, they should feel mine after a 3 hour bluegrass jam. Damn that's sore.

later my friend,

Good clean sound you got there. I like the mix. It sounds very warm to my ears. This song could benefit from vocals. Then again, there's lots of interesting little guitar things here and there to keep it interesting without vocals. Very very relaxing. I've heard lots of relaxing songs here lately. Is it just that time of the year or what? Very nice indeed.

hey Crank,
I've messed with this tune for a while, and really wanted the guitars to shine, since I mainly did the recording for the new owner of this guitar. And it turn out pretty good so I put it here for you folks to hear. I ran the guitars a little hotter than I would with the Martin, and was very surprised at the result. I can hear a little overload on the lead guitar. I like the tune, and it is a work in progress at this point.

thanks,

dtb

nice.. mellow... kinda reflective..

As this was playing, I felt like calling my dad. :)

sounds clean..

Sounds really nice!
Your going to be his favorite uncle forever!
(He'll probably forget you when he's famous though, either that or write a song about you!):D

I used to have a d-18,was the same way, really bright treble, but sweet bass.

Funny you should mention the Stella,I think that was the first guitar I ever had too.(God,that was 30 something years ago!)
It was a half size, black and maroon, with an electric type headstock, all the tuners on one side.
Used classical strings.
Looked like a cowboy guitar.
I really miss her!"sniff':(

Anyway, nice writing, did you just make it up off the top of your head, sweet tune!

my first guitar was a washburn and i loved the thing.......in my opinion they are the best made sub-$200 guitars.........i think you made a good choice

ok....what would it have sounded like if you had a $210 limit?:)

I told my wife about tripping on the JRT holes in the house and trying to avoid sprained ankles...and she about spit her supper out of her mouth at the table.

nice tune Dano...."book 'em"!!
