So that's the dp-02? I have been curious about the Tascam digital Portastudios for some time but I am not sure that I want to make the transition to digital. I use a Tascam 244 that I purchased new in 1984, or was it 85. I am interested in the dp-24 if I ever do take the plunge. Oh, I like the tune, good job.

Yes that little keyboard recording (not really a song) was recorded straight to the DP-02, think I had a total of 3 parts in it. Don't exactly remember what part I came up with first but did it very quickly for fun. I know that I was just wanting to learn the machine (my first digital multitrack) and I wound up mixing/bouncing to a pair of TKS. Well I was so surprised by the outcome, that I went ahead and burt it to the internal CD recorder. The DP-02 is 16 bits un-compressed audio. As you can hear after taking the CD and transferring it to my laptop (Windows Media) and turned it into an Mp3 with the highest quality option. I still love analog just as much as digital...I have an MSR24S/M-3500 I used in the 90s-2000s and went thru a divorce and just haven't made the room yet to start recording with it again.I think you would prefer the 2488 over the DP-24 (just my opinion) just from hearing about all the bugs that haven't been worked out of the DP-24. By the way,the 244 was the first portastudio that I owned and still think I have some mixdowns from that machine !!! Well, just take your time before you "make the transition" are not ....have a great nite :thumbs up:

You can bounce the entire 8 tracks to the dedicated stereo Master track internally, then export the master track and pull it to your computer to burn CDs. No CD burning step in the middle of the DP02-to-computer transfer is necessary, and you don't have to use 2 of your basic tracks to create the stereo mixdown.
:spank::eek:;)

I know that A REEL PERSON and I chose to bounce it to 2 TKS on purpose. For one thing, I was only dealing with 5 or 6 physical TKS. and like I said, was learning at the time how to bounce which was a fun thing ever since the all analog days. But also that way (the bounce mix to 2 TKS) I can easily sit and compare the un-mixed TKS. to the bounced mix TKS. and another thing is that I wasn't wanting to incorporate computer into the picture quite yet.It is not hard for me to convert the CD made from the DP-02 (or any other CD) into an mp3 using Windows Media. With the quality option I set it to the highest (320 Kbps) which to my ears, listening to it after uploading to this forum I cant hear the difference and was very surprised actually. For right now as it is, this was a big deal to me as an old diehard analog guy:o haha But Id be glad for you to teach me how to import and export wav files back and forth from any of the "stand alone" machines I have ;)
