I’m a new Cubase user and I’m enjoying audio-recording with it. But now I also want to add synths-lines to my songs. There are some good VSTi’s in Cubase, but there’s also a lot of freeware and shareware synths around. How can I install those synths in Cubase?

when you get the vsti run it's install program. this program should put a .dll file in your cubase plugins directory automaticly. If it does not you may have to move it or direct it manually. either way once the .dll file is in that directory fire up cubase and look throug the menus for a button that says vst instuments (thats what it is in SX). Scroll through and pick the new instrument then on your MIDI tracks set the output to that instrument instead of your normal MIDI out put. On the vst instruments menu if you hit the l button you can go in and edit the vsti through cubase using the instruments GUI.

Note that in Cubase 5, the VST effects and VST instruments appear to go into different folders that are very poorly differentiated, having identical names, "Vstiplugins," but in different directories that do not in any way make clear their functions.

In that some VST effects and some VST instruments must be manually installed, this can cause problems, as the folders are not interchangeable.

Very stupid arrangement, and I don't know if it was fixed in SX or not.
