Hi, I use Reaper for my DAW and an Omega Lexicon for my mixer. When buying a midi keyboard, do I plug it into the back of the mixer, and my DAW should recognize it? I imagine stuff like this is probably fairly obvious with the devices in front of you, but I have yet to actually buy a piano. Before I did, I just wanted to know if it's fairly plug-in-and-play straightforward, yes?

If you are using a MIDI keyboard as a controller for a VSTi (sounds created within your DAW), you connect it to the MIDI input on the Omega, and record a MIDI track. If you are using the sounds from the keyboard itself, you would use two of the Line inputs on the back of the Omega, and record an audio track.

I'm sure there is some setup needed within Reaper, for it to recognize the keyboard. I'm not a Reaper guy, so can't help ya there.

I use REAPER as my day-in, day out DAW.

Any modern controller or synth you buy has a USB output jack which handles both MIDI in and MIDI out. If you buy it new, it will probably come with a USB cable in the box. This hooks directly into your computer, and you select it in REAPER simply by pulling down the 'Options' menu, choosing 'Preferences' and then 'Midi Devices'. Check the box with the name of your device and you're all set!
