Hello, everyone.
I'm a newbie to this forum. I'm glad I discovered it and hope to get some wisdom out of it. I recently purchased a EWS88D and tried to install it into my system (Compaq Presario 5320US, 1.5 Ghz, 512 RAM, XP Home Edition). It has an onboard integrated OEM soundcard (SOUNDMAX by Analog Devices). However, the WDM driver (both from the CD-ROM and the website) refuses to be installed stating "the data is invalid". I've sought technical support from Terratec (they tried to get me to do a clean install) but stated they couldn't help me because Compaq makes their own motherboard. I then contacted Compaq and troubleshooted with them. They weren't too helpful.

I've tried and believe I've succeeded in disabling the onboard soundcard (through device manager and bios). My computer is recognizing the new hardware, but will not install the driver. I thought it might be a faulty card, so I tried it on another PC (Dell with Windows 98SE) using the VXD driver and it worked. So, the sound card works, just not with my system. I bought this computer not too long ago thinking it would be good for recording.

Can anyone offer some advice? I would greatly appreciate it.

Is the Terratec Control Panel working??? What s/w are you using. I had/still have problems with the combination of XP for OS, the WDM driver and Cakewalk. I basically gave up...

Can you get the Samplitude s/w with that came with the sound card to work. It does not use the WDM driver... I would be a little surprised if it was your Compaq computer. Basically turn off as many periferal devices as possible. i.e. modem, other sound cards, network cards etc... If it works then you have a system config problem... Dont give up ... the terratec sound card rocks.

Are you using the TOS-Link lightpipe???

Happyman,
Hopefully this will make you er happy.. again!
Check in start/settings/controlpanel /system/hardware/device manager
to see if you are using a wdm video capture device. If you are disable it. There may be a clash between wdm drivers (video and sound) Probably not whats wrong ... just a thought cos it happened to me...
