I went to the Control Panel and tried to get the Wizard to detect it. It did not.

I guess it is just not the right card.

Could you please visit the link I posted and look at the card and see if any DUH!!! stuff jumps out at you as to what might be the problem???

Thanks for you help!

No special driver software is needed for installation, and manuals (if desired) are provided by free electronic download. Consequently, FirewireDirect has chosen to send this product with no driver CD and with minimal packaging in order to reduce packaging waste. I would download that manual, and try manually installing the drivers for it. Hopefully the manual will show a picture of the pci card to confirm that the card is supposed to be extra long like that, and not the wrong card.
The manual should also include manufacturer contact links for tech support.

Seems like you have a recently released firewire card of which the OS itself doesn't have the drivers available.
Install the drivers that came with the card or better yet: download the latest drivers from the manufacturer's site and install those. I'd expect a step-by-step explanation of how to do that in the manual that came with the card.

Look at what I just posted. I comes with none of that.
Here's the link to the manual.

WINDOWS USERS
If you use Windows 98 SE, 2000, Millennium Edition (Me) or XP, FireWire drivers are already present and you should be able to plug and play all FirewireDirect products.

Exceptions, updates and other downloads that provide additional support for Windows users are listed below.

FIREWIRE/ATA 100 RAID PCI CARD DRIVERS - Windows users of the FireWire/ATA 100 RAID PCI Card require a small additional driver available for download

No mention of a Driver that you can D/L and manually install other than what comes with XP. :(

Missed your post while I was typing mine, substractor.

Not very consumer friendly.
But then again, a 64-bits card isn't really intended for consumers.

But let me say it again: A 64 bits card should work fine in an ordinary 32 bits PCI slot (the one we're all familiar with). It may look a bit awkward, having it partly hanging outside the slot but it will work as a 32 bits card like any common firewire card.

Just tackle the drivers issue, Pisces and you're set.

ALRIGHT!!!

My brother came through like the champ that he is.

He drove in from Atlanta and took a look at it. He fixed it in about 3 minutes.

Don't ask me what he did. He just took it out of the PCI slot it was in and stuck it into another slot, turned it on and TAH DAH!!!

So thatnks for your help. Sorry if I exhasperated anyone!
