Hello Folks,

I am sure this is childs play to most of you but being a noob in this area I thought I would ask some pros.

I want to use an insert for one chan (mic) on my mixer and have some questions.

1. Do I just come out of one side of my compressor to instert #1?
2. Do I still plugh my mic into the xlr as it is now?
3. Will the compressor only effect the chan it is linked to?
4. Is this a better method than send/return for a compressor?

My rig:
Eurorack UB1622FX-PRO

Line out of the computer to a chan on the mixer to monitor tracks from the harddrive

Control room outs to my headphone amp

Sub 1,2 outs to the line in on my computer. I used this method so I could have effects while I am singing but get a dry track recorded and do the effects at mixdown.

You don't want to use a compressor on an aux/send because you want the entire signal processed. Plug your xlr into the mic in on the mixer, make sure you have the appropriate insert cable, I think the tip is the send and the ring is the return(someone correct me if I'm wrong), the tip goes to the comp in, then the comp out goes to the return on the insert cable.

If it is a stereo compressor, could we do this to two channels on the mixer? Or could we send one channel to a complete oppositte application than the other?

ezwillis is correct. You need an "insert" cable. Inserts can make a loop through your hardware. The signal comes in through the XLR/preamp, goes out on the tip/send (attach to the input of your processor) of the insert cable, comes back through the ring (attach to the output of your processor) and then through the rest of the signal path. And, yes, if you use the insert, the effect is only applied to the channel you are using the effect on.
