BBE sonic maximizers are signal processors that makes (inaudibly) the mids reach your ear right before the bass and treble notes, it sounds like a blanket was taken off of the sound. Instant clarity to a signal.

$409 is a great price for the NTK, you probably won't find better than that. It's a nice mic. I'm very happy with mine.

science one...

if that's the case, id remix your track again.

these sonic whatevers can ruin a track if not used properly.

I'm not sure if I'm prepared to believe that statement. I know that's what they say in their ads and literature, but it kinda' sounds contrived.

Don't bother with sonic maximizers, exciters, cheap toob or tewb pres, or other audio blue eyeshadow. Get a good clean signal chain. Clean like the DMP-3, or the Grace as a step up. Or, if you can wait a bit for vaporware to materialize, FMR's RNMP should be a phenomenal value, as was the RNC. With mic pres you don't really notice the true impact until you stack several tracks recorded through them one upon the other. That's when "color", aka harmonic distortion, starts to accumulate. It may be a smear you don't want spread accross your whole mix.

Sounds like you're about to purchase a good mic, and that's splendid. Maintain the path of quality. Buy cheap, and buy twice.

With your help, we can knock out cheep tewb sound in Johny's lifetime.

I love chessy's analogy of the draft!Trade down for more mics and an xlr cord to be named later.
Sonic maximizers,oh please..... if were that easy, all the speaker mfgs would simply "time allign" the placement of their speaker voice coils.Give me a break...

Hey Kent, what do ya mean by Buy Twice ?
What do yall think is a better :
a C1 without pad and high pass filter for $175
OR
a C1 with pad and high pass filter for $230
??

Johny, merely that if you buy too cheaply, you soon outgrow your purchase and find yourself shopping for the quality you could have simply bought in the first place, albeit possibly by having to save longer.

Considering that for the same price (75-80$) you can get the killer Rode SM2 shockmount, which looks and functions like a military leg brace, I would not buy the No Name Universal Shockmount. That thing is a piece of pvc with an elastic string in it.

Chessy? Alright then, Hickey from K'nicky.

Hey Guys,

Sorry for the lack of input, but I was out at the NAB Show for a week, so I have been away.

The good news is, the B Series is in Los Angeles. A little hassel getting them through customs because they are new models for us, and the Customs department want us to jump through fire, but no matter, they will ship next week. So, look for them at your dealer pretty quick.

Yes, Randy...they are on the way! I don't blame you on the TB1. $299.99 should be the price.

The NAB was a great show for us. The orders are all in place, so all we have to do is some final test and QC, and then ship them out.

I will catch up as soon as I can, so bear with me.

Hey Alan I know its probably a bit early, but do you know where I might be able to find some reviews on the TB1 ?

Thanks Alan,I can't wait to get my hands on that bad boy! :D

After reareading the thread I'd like to amend my earlier suggestion of a DMP3 and an RNC.The pres in the omni studio are probably pretty close to the ones in the DMP3 so another choice might be better.I hate to recommend products that aren't actually out yet but maybe a pairing of the RNMP and the RNC,and for a mic the Studio Projects TB-1.I think it would be a tad(like $25 or so)above $800 but it would be a killer set up.

Too early yet, but soon!

Just to let everyone know that helped me out there, I went ahead and purchased 2 C1's .. I figured since they were such a great deal ($175) I might as well get 2.. I'm hoping this will turn out better than buying for example 1 C3 or even 1 NTK.
Anyways thanks for the help everyone, about 400 left over for a preamp..or maybe another mic ? Haha
I think maybe ill hold off and wait to hear on those upcoming preamps you guys spoke of. Research and save up a bit more :)

Use the new mics with the omni for awhile. Then once you get a pre you will be able to appreciate if it is really doing anything for you.
