Hola amigos,

Just a friendly notice for all you Neumann TLM 103 owners, or those considering a purchase of one.

Don't buy the Neumann shockmount made for the TLM 103. It is well over $100. Instead, buy an AKG H-100 shockmount. These H-100 are standard gear for the AKG C3000, 4000, 2000 and 414. They come with any of the above mics in most packages, and can be had for about $40-$60. The H-100 shockmount fits the Numann perfectly and is half the cost of a Neumann shockmount.

hey oct:

Pardon my ignorance, but is that the round thing I screw my 103 into?

JK,
Indeed it is. I'll try to post a picture here...

Where did you get your H-100 mount from?

I've got a pair of AKG C4000s and one of the mounts broke. I went through a guy that I used to work for and he gives me stuff at near cost and my replacement still cost me $139! I need to know where you got yours from. Also, one thing that I don't like about the H-100 is the plastic connector that threads onto the mic stand. For the quality of mics that AKG makes I would have thought that the threading would have been one of the brass inserts but it isn't. Kinda disappointed in that aspect of it.

I was a bit hasty in my previous posting, as I've since looked and these things have increased in price. They used to be about $60, now they're $70-$90. I know ZZounds has them for $90 new, but check around. They show up on ebay frequently.

The AKG C4000 is about 2 1/4" diameter and the tensimount will accept mics up to 1 3/4" in diameter. So no, they wouldn't work for me on that mic but that is a very interesting concept.
Oh yeah, and thanks Octoruss. I don't know how they get them so cheap. That is a deal. I called a couple of other places before just to check before I called my guy. The other guys wanted even more.

Mike

Are you guys sure the Neumann sits and stays in the AKG shockmount? If I turn it upside down I do NOT want the mic to hit the floor. Sounds like a good plan so far...
