I'm looking for a drum machine for and industrial metal/coldwave/aggrotech sort of band. I need this machine to work live and in the studio, and to be of pretty good quality for a sort of cheap price. For examples of what I'm looking for listen to Psyclon 9 or Still Life Decay on myspace. I'm hoping somebody can help me out here, thanks in advance.

I've tried hammerhead, but I need something much better, something I can personalize the sound of, use live, and can actually do what I want it to do. Hammerhead doesn't provide these things, anybody else? It doesn't need to be something free, just something that will do the things I'm asking for.

by the way, I'm very interested in finding something pretty similar to what Psyclon Nine are using www.myspace.com/psyclonnine so if it's not a drum machine, then it'd be nice if somebody could direct me to what it is, thanks. If it is a drum machine, what is one that's capable of that sort of thing?

Its obvious that you didnt dig in or learn to use hammerhead to its fullest extent. It will load samples and you can create multipul patterns that can be chained in a sequencer ect etc......

It actualy quite a great software drum machine, its got great features for a freebee. Actualy its pretty much identical to Steinberg B.Box but free.
Learn it and it will do what you want I'm sure.

I think your be a bit impatient here, I can kind of see that from the amount of topics you have started here recently.
Take a breather and do a ton of searches here and elseware and learn what you need rather than pass on things that you dont understand rather than starting alot of topics that have been covered already.

By the way, pretty much any drum machine will do what that groups will do.
But its harder and harder to tell if they are using loops, drum machine, MPC or what ever so its all subjective.
WHy not make your own trail rather than follow, Inovate not emulate.

My personal favorite programs FYI is Reason and FL studio.
FL is inexpensive and provides tons of sounds and synths and drum machines.

I would consider a laptop, controller and interface with FL long before I bought much hardware. Considering how much more value you get from software, the amount of gear you have mentioned in other posts you could get the afore mentioned laptop setup for the same price or less.

So before you say "anybody else?" and pass on my info at least consider it.

I was just using that band as an example of something that i liked and wanted out of the sounds so you'd have an idea of what I wanted. I really have tried to mess with Hammerhead quite a bit and can get only a bit of what I want from it. I will try to read up more, but I would like to have sufficient equipment. And yes, I have been very impatient about this, I know, but I can't help it.

I would go with a MPC (500/1000/2000 depending on what you want to spend) since that will allow you to use your own drum samples and has an excellent sequencer too.

The Korg ES-1 also has a similar functionality and its cheap (~100-150)

Ok, (because I am a bit ignorant on the subject) where would I get my own drum samples? Something like Reason? Or do I make my own? (Again, please excuse my ignorance)

I had also seen another used called Reaktor that was said to work well.

There are drum samples all over the 'net, just do a bit of looking around. I've got well over 2 GB of samples, and I don't even make electronic music.

Well, if you want the advice of a 15year gear slut (15 year making music not my age) such as myself who has been through alot of gear because he didnt dig in more and learn as much as he could........

STOP BEING IMPATIENT!!!!

Do an google search for "Sampler basics" or "Sample librarys"........

I have to second the recommendation of the Korg Electribe ES-1. I've been using one for years, you can sample any sound you want into it, if you have a stack of fx pedals laying around you can run the source signal through those and sample it, the possiblities are endless. Once you've loaded all the sounds you want into it, you designate the different samples to the different "part" buttons and program your patern. It's really, really simple to use and really flexible too.

I use Fruity Loops, and it works pretty well. You can build a good drum track in no time.

It lacks touch sensitivity, of course, but if you have a high tom, for example, you can duplicate it as many times as you want and set the balance and volume seperately for each. Therefore, you can actually have a climb in volume for intros, etc.

Plus, it has a gazillion other sounds and samples, and is only ninety-nine bucks.

That's how I write all my top ten hits.

You should check out any of the akai mpc samplers. They are good for any style of music. It does'nt come with any sounds when you buy it so you have to load it with your own samples, just search on different downloaders like emule and bitcomet. You'll have tons of free samples in no time to get you started. I use the akai mpc-2000xl and it's great for drum programming and it's no problem to use it live. I've seen some people on the mpc-forums.com who use it for industrial music. hope this was any helpful.
