hey... i recorded a band.. and notcied that my recordings arent in ur face if u get what i mean... they are in the distance.... ppl tell me to turn them up... but after a while they get distorted... any suggestions?

How did you record them, how many mics, what was your miking technique, what did you record it too, etc..

fill us in for a better answer.

update

im using nady DMK7 set for drums... a generic mic for vocals.. radio shack i think.. and radio shack for micing the amps.. bass goes right to mixer.. i do drums with bass .. then guitar... then vocals.. thx

updte 2

o ya.. i run it all to my beringer ub 2222 mixer.. then to my delta 66 SC.. then to cooledit

I could think of at least 10 reasons why they "sound in the distance".

You need to supply more info then you gave, like - Distance of micing , Are you applying effects? Room type, etc....

is this a joke, or do you seriously not know why they don't sound great?

Post it over in the clinic and let's see whats going on.

update

hey sry for not givin u the info.. im usin 7 mics for drums.... nady set.. micing everything close exceot for 2 overheads... no effects... should i use some? i mic the snare hit hat and toms like 4 inches away.

again

o ya.. this is all done in a basement.. capreted floor...

Mind you, we are discussing the distance issue and not the quality of your recording here.

From your posts it sounds like your room (basement) is the issue.
What you also might think as distance is the level fluctuating due to the musicians technique or a poor mix.

Post in the clinic to let us hear a clip.

lbc, if I were you I would spend some 100's of hours here! Read, read, read and read.

Radioshak isn't where I would buy my vocal mics...

I agree. Nady sucks. *BUT* they do have one mic The scm900 that is really worth the money. nice warm sound and smooth too. I would start saving for some new mics. Get a 57 ($80 ) for the snare and guitar amp, A akg d112 ($200) or Shure beta 52 ($190) for the kick and bass cab too if you want. And get some MXL603s ($159 for 2 with cables) for overheads and a mic like a MXL2001($100) for vocals or Scm900 ($80)

and use compression on the drums, bass and guitars. and vocals. but don't go crazy with it and over compress.

Peace

Zeke
"On my way to 1K!"

Well if it was a peice of crap, then i wouldn't list it on my site.

It's a "color" mic.... I've used it successfully when I wanted a trashy, muddy, honky, colored sound.

But I would never recommend it to someone (especially a beginner) as a general purpose mic.

Zeke, it's not enough to see something on someone's gear list.... you have to know why they have it and how they use it. Sometimes the reasons a studio has a particular piece are not obvious.
