How much do you roll off with the high pass filter on the male and female voice?

Any general cuts or boosts?

Yeah I know it won't be the same for every application but someone put me in the ballpark.

There really isn't even a good "ballpark" setting -

The only thing I can say is that if anything takes more than a dB or two, I'd submit that something wasn't in the ballpark to begin with.

That all being said... Rolloff is a little different and varies from person to person and microphone to microphone... I tend to shelf at a higher frequency (80-120?), and still only a few dB or so. Others like to cut-off hard at a lower frequency (40-60?).

I use the higher range for females and the lower range for males, and cut both hard.

Other than that, I tend to be suspicious of 3kHz . . .

I like to slice off the bottom of a vocal with a hard shelf at 90Hz or 100Hz. Seems to add clarity and lets the vocal sit a little easier in the mix

I had a lot of voice problems with the 6.3k hz notch, but I dont know if it was the mic or my voice...... otherwise I rolloff hard below 100.

The low E string on a bass is 80hz, right? Or is it 40? I never can keep that straight. But I figure I might as well roll it off if I cant even sing that low.

Hard rolloff below 100-150Hz on my own voice (male baritone) seems to avoid much conflict with other instruments in the mix.

I wouldnt necessarily say that if you need to add more than one dB you were out of the ballpark to begin with, but i've never added or cut more than 3dB with vocals. I usually cut the lows around 100Hz or 80Hz, give a small boost at 2.5kHz for intelligibility, and another small boost at 10kHz for air. However, it all depends on the singer and the song. The last mix i did i actually boosted quite a bit at 100Hz and cut 10kHz. depends on the song and singer.
