Whats up everyone. Brand new to the site here. I'm just starting out with digital recording. I want to pick up some software to run with my out of date computer (Hewlett Packard w/ windows 98) and my first digital recorder (mr 8). Was wondering if anyone could give me some info on software that i could use. thanks.

Kristal is a wonderful program but its not as easy to get started with as
this software is http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ i am not sure if it works with 98 though but you might be able to look around the website and find out its also free and easy to use more advanced is pro tools free but i have not heard of many people who like as its about as stable as windows is  good luck

I would suggest moving to XP first, as some utilities don't even support Win98. For example, the Fostex WavManager software does not work in all ways on Win98.

If you wanna try ProTools, PTFree will run on Win98.
Or it might not. PT Free was an unstable promo idea that Digi dropped. IMO it would be a waste of time and hard drive space.
