In need of fresh ears.......

Well this is the first of this kinda music I've heard here..... I like. It's going to be interesting to see what kind of melody line you come up with. Do you need to be black to sing this kinda stuff ? ;)

The bass groove at the start is my favorite. Lots of good ideas.
 
I haven't read through the posts yet, but I had to comment on the drums. :D The guitars sounded beautiful. Very crisp. The snare could go down in volume to the relation of the drumset. The cymbals, were nice in volume, added to the crispness of the song. Something has to change with those toms tho. hehe... Sounded too "electronic to me". One last thing, the kick could go up a notch. ;) Cool funk groove tho man. I'm diggin it. Got my ass hoping around in my chair.:D
 
Liked it..........definitely a good basis for a tune. There's a lot of different ways you could go with this. You could go for the horn section Crusaders' thing, or you could go in a synth bass/synth rhythm section or for the rock-fusion sort of feel. And of course let's not forget porno music. :D
It'll be interesting to see where this goes.
 
damn fine bass playing. it's refreshing to hear that! nice tone, interesting line, etc. top notch there.

i'm gonna lay down a different kind of drum comment on you. yeah, they do sound fake but i think that's coming across clear in the feedback but....i think you could follow the bass line a little closer with the bass drum rather than the snare drum. instead of accenting that sixteenth note after 2 with a snare hit, try a bass drum hit instead. just an idea.

mix sounds very good, especially the bass, except the drums but that's just cause they sound fake......

- the guy who doesn't have any real drums and likes to tell everyone else they should be using real drums....
 
I think this could develop into a really good song. I'd be interested in what you're thinking in the way of vocals.

The instruments are all well played and sit very well together.

The transition from a funky verse to a more "power pop" type chorus was real nice. The only suggestion I would say is once you get to the chorus, keep going with those long power chords a bit longer. You tend to chop up the chorus a bit and I think the possibilities are a little better if you don't.

Lt.Bob- Hey Steve, Im not familiar w/ the Crusaders. I could imagine a horn section in here though.... Earth Wind and Fire comes to mind ....that mixed w/ some old Flea funk trumpet (ala mofo).... I dunno. Porn??? ...your mind is in the gutter man :D :D whatta cool idea!:D

Sounds slick. I heard 3 styles, one for each part. for the first section I imagined a jazzy alto sax or ripping Asian fusion guitar on top, like you'd hear at a Berklee recital .
