I re-recorded everything onto my ADAT for this song over the past couple of days. (Between snow shovelling and Christmas shopping). I used the advice from the initial thread and hopefully it sounds a bit better. Your comments on this mix would be greatly appreciated. The link is the same and should take you right to the latest version on the song page.

SWEET!!!!!

The intro rocks. :) It just does man. The overall verb is just right.

The vox are so cool. The second guitar doing the little solo is just great. Especially before "Hard to do" the little licks is just such a nice mood setter.

The Rhythm guitar are really cool. The strumming and "nuck nuck" one.

Hey, the squeal at 3:01 is a really good fit.

The only thing I'd say is maybe lower the hi-hats by 2-3db. They're a little upfront.

The snare sound is very fitting for this.

bigbubba - I used a different verb setting for this mix. It's supposed to be designed for slower stuff. The leads within the song are something I'm trying out based on suggestions from Tim and Gorty. I actually recorded the "nuck nuck" on two different guitars before settling on my Strat. The hi-hats are part of a stereo drum track so (unfortunately) are kinda set....
Thanks for listening and the positive comments.....

My Oh My Gerry,
You've taken a reggae inflection and made it something of your own. This is terrific. It has something of the mellow take on reggae that clapton found with I Shot The Sherrif & that whole 461 album (or was it slowhand).
The lead licks are just perfect for the song and the placement is great too.
I like the whole percussion set up.
I take this is still keyboard bass but it sounds pretty good pushing the song along under the rhythm guitars. It sits well & fills out the bottom end nicely.
I can't recall you extending yourself into a long structure. this sounds effortless so you really must have put a heap of work into this, warmed up over the snow shovel I assume.
I've probably said this before but there is a Gallagher & Lyle sweetness to your work - that's a compliment by the way - I think there stuff is a "guilty pleasure" for many.
In summary: FAN F'n TASTIC!

rayc - thanks for the listen and the kind words. I think that Clapton song in on 461..... That's my first attempt at lead licks within a song. I could spend hours trying stuff out but settled on take#2. The percussion and keys are combined from my Yamaha. I actually downloaded the MIDI file and fiddled with it but in the end I used the original settings. I had to shovel twice today so I was aptly warmed when I did the guitars :D . Thanks for the comparison to Lyle and Gallagher - appreciate that.... I'm keeping my eyes open for your Bruno pickups BTW - it's under my favorite searches on eBay..... :D :) :D :)

Sounds pretty good to me man...everything is pretty even volume wise. Nice delivery on vocals, and teh guitar and bass sit well. It's put together evenly...nothing seems buried, and nothing sticks out funny.

Song is pretty good, overall. Sort of a rocker, with some oldtime roots. Reminds me of something written in teh 60's....more emphasis on the words and vocal delivery than anything else.

Very tastefully done. Nice lead section.....it fits well within the song structure, and still makes a point. Just fills it's own space. Voice is done well. Little bit of twang, to give it a different sort of vibe. Nice and controlled.

Good tune man, and nice mix. It's very clean.

A couple days back, you had some distortion on some of the vocal bursts. They are gone now. :) However... now, I'm hearing some distortion on some of the kick drum. It's a bit more noticeable when the kick and the bass hit together. And, in a couple of places when the kick, bass and vocal hit together. Sorry to be so picky, but if I hear it, I've got to tell ya. Great song!

Dogman - thanks man - having everything even and audible is my goal. Vocals and lyrics is usually where everything begins so that emphasis is pretty much right on. Glad you like the lead - something kinda new but will probably try again in the future.... Thanks again......

Nick - thanks for the listen. There's no peaks clipping on the .wav when I open it in SF so it's got to be something else..... I'll look into that and see what I can find....thanks for the heads up......

Compared to the first version, this is polished smoother than glass. Whatever you did, it's worked. I picked up a couple of little clicks you might want to check out, like at 2.35. This is top 40 stuff, great job man

I just had to download it. Sounds even better as an MP3. Having heard your songs in full CD quality glory I can imagine just how much sweeter this sounds pre MP3 compression.
Your 1st attempts on licks within the song & outside the M8? Wow, you've had a very successful experiment then. I hope you're confident enough of your skills to do it as required henceforth.
You made a few changes to your working practices of late, nothing too hasty or too extreme: mic'd cab, keyboard, lead licks etc., and you've actually warmed up your songs even more.
Congrats.
Nuck nuck ahoy.

Bulls Hit - Complete re-record onto ADAT for this one - seems to have helped. I'll keep the Tascam for scratch tracks :). I'll try and figure out where that click's coming from. Thanks for listening, glad you liked it. :)

Hey rayc - thanks again. The changes/improvements are a direct result of the great advice from you and others on the board. Appreciate the feedback - it's invaluable....

:) :D :) :D

Much better man. Not that the original was bad, but this is very smooth and everything sits just about right. No nits here. Great job. :)

Greg_L - thanks for the listen!

Sound D - thanks also - check your PM's......

what a great lead guitar tone, rich creamy compressed tone but the dynamics still pop out on each note, cool licks and really good intonation.

Thanks for the listen Tim. Sorry to hear about your power dilemma....Hope you get everything back to normal soon.
That's my Strat that has a special boost circuit built into the tone knob. I set it to around 3/10 and it really smooths out the highs and compresses the sound. This is played through the clean channel of my amp (with a bit of gain) mic'ed with an SM57.....

:) :D :) :D

SM57.....

Those are getting expensive lately. Most things: Prices go down. SM57&58 prices have been soaring. What gives?
