In between recording and live yet both at the same time!!!!!

Here is a band that I work with quite often *Remember September.*

TV work is always hard for it is in front of a studio audience live yet I have to have everything set in the mix for recording as it is in a recording studio with one major difference. I have no more than 15 minutes to have everything set and there is no redo!

TWO jobs in one. Live Sound and Recording. It's a heck of a lot of fun.
~ I love working under pressure!

So unlike other music that is posted here, I can't go back and tweak it after showing it to you guys and adjusting what flaws may stands out to yous ......

So I throw my self on the Mercy of the court. :D

I have no idea how you can actually accomplish anything in fifteen minutes but more power to you!

It's tough to judge your work, i.e., live performance, the room, and all the other parameters you must have to deal with...in fifteen minutes or less. It doesn't sound bad by any means but I don't think I can personally judge the technical aspects of your work with any serious credibility. It sounds pretty decent to my ears, and for fifteen minutes it sounds great. The vocals could be nudged down slightly in my opinion (a little boomy too, vocally) and there's something wrong with the bass that I don't personally care for but I think that has more to do with the bass player's gear rather then your mixing abilities. Do you have any other "fifteen Minute Mixes" we could use to compare?

Yeah do a search here to find more.
The one thing to remember is that after this (what you hear) after me, the TV station heavily hits it with a muti band compressor as a mastering engineer would but for the TV airwaves. Voice and picture are the most important thing to them.

I will (search). It sucks that the television network has to get their hands involved in your work. Do they have to compress it, I mean is there a technical reason for doing so?

Who's the chick? Does she do anything apart from harmonies?

Agree with KC that the voices are a bit prominent in places, but that will be all the TV station cares about, I guess..

Well done for a 15 minute set up!

Thanks KC! Like I said the pressure was on. The producer was all over me to make sure that I had the vocals way on top .... I think that is all he cares about .... it could be that or his job I guess.

That would be a sight though huh? Me walking out onto the set waving my arms to stop the show and start over. THEN saying hi to my mum. :D ... HI MOM

She sings lead on a bunch of songs, just not that one.

I'm an ould Folky, by the way so I like the vocals on top.
Radio & TV stations have to compress their sound. The low budget ones such as Campus Radio Stations etc. can't always afford to do that and you can tell.
Anyway; It's a wordy song and that's what they are selling.
Great mix in my humble opinion.

Sounds great, good band. A little more bass rolled off the vox could leave more room in the mix. The male voice has the proximity thing going cause he sings right on the mic. Just a thought, Nice work dude!
 
TV Compression is pretty heavy from what I understand. Most TV shows I see are mostly vocals. Glad to hear that the rest of the instruments got a wee bit in there. And the clapping sounds well....outstanding! :D:D:D:D

Yeah it's a lot like our channel 9 but more closer to the major ABC or NBC etc standards.
Down there in Connecticut they throw the money around a lot more ... they have to keep up with NYC with productions.

I did had the 80 and below switched IN on the vocals of my Midas Console plus some tailoring with the low mid sweep. Could be the dang youtube thing as well!
