Hustle Magic!! We Got It.
I know when have hit on this in here yet..and it really needs to be talk about..

How will it effect the Media and the Entertainment business, Hip-Hop/Rap and Rock in general?

My take: I know it was "wrong" of him to say such a thing but the reason why they hired the guy was because of his "blunt" approach to things. Black people, comedians especially ALWAYz "jone"(make fun of) caucasion folk...and NEVER have I heard a white person go crying to the media(mind you Im only 17)...Without a shadow of a doubt Mr.Imus was wrong nonetheless this world is getin too damn soft...and as my man Fyre said on the "Constitution" track" "We've became WAY too sensitive to words but it'd wrong if we just.."

^pretty much what he said...... but at the same time.... he called a "Team" of mostly black female basketball players "nappy headed hoes" I just dont get it maybe i need to hear the context of the joke he was tellin but the shit aint funny i mean sure a lot of black comedians tell white jokes but their comedians its there job he aint and we dont just got around callin white people slut crackers or no shit like that (unless its a white cop which is another story fuckin pigs) but yea we have became way to sensitive to words but at the same time if It come outta my mouth I stand by it..... hell I kno for a fact he wouldn't of said that unless he was in the protection of radio booth and if thats how he felt he shoulda stood behind it....... evidently not

comedy really does aply to this cause..that person has a choice to goto the show or not... but like radio or tv its still a choice,..but you will still hear it or see it on the next station or channel.. I dont know to many people now adays the will ride with their radio's off or their TV's off casue of the content of the music..

Take music video's now-a-days ..its purely about Sex and how much Bling I got and thats it.. where are the videos showing the Artist rocking the crowd, uplifting the community..having a good time in the real ghetto not american top model ghetto..

its not that the world is getting soft..its just that the world is a bunch of bullshit...
its still racist no no reason at all...the world will never be a good place..cause you will always have someone to mess it up..no matter what color they are..its just the facts..

I to thought he was wrong..but he only deserve to to give a apology the the Rutgers Girls and thats it..yes and no he should have lost his job..because this isnt the 1st time he was done it..(talked about the Jewish awhile back) ,,yes because it was said on a live broadcast.. no (CBS Radio) cause worst word are said by Artist on the radio that is played everyday..

the real reason he got fired is, the Big Companies were pulling the Advertisement money (ie.. P&G) so they Fired him..

but he will be back on..some station and broadcast will hire him..he might end up on Gaye Ass FOX News..LOL..

just like when Howard Stern went through his mess Don Imus will be ok..

be the message has been sent..now the Music Industry is in the lime light..to clean up there act..

Think about this...comedy's become about shock value. We do it all the time.
From the late greats Richard Pryor and Redd Foxx, to Eddie Murphy (back in the day), Chris Rock, and Dave Chappelle.

You get offended and the comic got you (and made you look like an ass in front of a crowd...AND you PAID to see HIM). You let it go as they're doing what they're paid to do as entertainers and that's that. No harm done.

This would be like comparing Ice Cubes raps dissing white women to the song Eminem did before he got known dissing black folks.

Folks as a whole are too damn sensitive to shit. Sometimes Prozac is necessary.

im gon advocate for the devil (sort of speak) . . .

1. Star was fired for "crossing the line"
2. Stern was disposed of for "crossing the line"
Therefore, Imus deserves no preferential treatment . . . even though I disagree with Star and Stern being fired, once the standard has been set - Imus has to follow suit with it.

overall, i think u gotta stay in yo lane when it comes to stuff like this. The language was racist in nature - I dont condone anyone using that language that way. Its not as if the team was asked to come on his show (knowing he is abrasive). When you have a show (like H. Stern's, for instance) that is typically based upon debauchery adn sexism - then you know what you are getting yourself into when u visit his show. Imus did not invite those women to his show. He just decided to degrade them.

Its not the same as when such words are used in rap music - (how many rap songs have been directed at the women's Rutgers basketball team????) Rap music does use such language but not indiscriminately - when its in rap music, they are not talking about "public figures" even - they are talking about specific women that they have had or want to have some kind of experience with - THAT IS A MAJOR DIFFERENCE.

Well.. The Imus thing is a joke. Plain and Simple. For instance, the coach for the rutgers team, said how damaging it was to there team and blahblahblah, how millions of people heard it.

Ever heard of C-Span? Sure you have. Remember a year or two ago, when Kamau Kambon got on there and said the problem with the black people in this country is the white people, and all white people should be exterminated?

I never ONCE heard about this on the radio, news, it was on c-span, and then it was over. Keep in mind this was a Howard University Professor.

So this brings me to my next question, Why does society only see Whites as "racist"? If anything we are the LEAST racial "ethnic group" on the face the planet, yet we are ousted for the slightest remark.

THAT is what frys me.

Btw, here is the kamau kambon speech he gave.

now I was going to entertain your argument unti u said this . . .

I do wish, however, there could be an open dialogue about what exactly is racism .. . . but im not goin there . . .

Okay, let me start off by saying that I'm not racist.

I am black (with all the various mixes that most black americans have... african, native american, french canadian, and scottish/irish).

One of my grand-mothers is Scottish, one of my grand-fathers is Irish, and my god-mother is Jewish.

1. If you look back just forty (40) years into americas past, the answer will be evident.

2. I disagree with you.

3. I am sorry that you are experiencing the negative backlash, because of the horrible transgressions that have been made by some individuals in the past that were of caucasoid descent.

P.S: I didn't read all of the posts in this thread yet.....

OK...

I feel that IMUS was employed to be a shock jock. He was just doing his job.

HOWEVER, I think that he shouldn't have said the remark that he said.

Yeah, Rich Pryor, Dave Chapelle, Chris Rock, etc... could /would have said it, but then again, they are black. So they can say it. Why you might ask????

Well... if you don't know then I'll share it with you in another thread.

Imus was trying to be funny, but he shouldn't have said it.

Heck..... when I was watching the game with my boys, I said the same thing. "Maaan, dem some UGLY nappy headed **s *itches."

I don't think that he should've been fired, but when those MEGA sponsors threaten to pull their money out or else.......

It comes down to the GREEN, not white, black, tan yellow, or brown.

I'm sure I left something out but.... I still have a lot to say.

Peace...

spin

Post Script: I hope that I did not offend anybody. :^)

Well, the point i was trying to make is that, its "accepted" when black anyone makes a comment like that, hell, look at what chris rock has said, did he come under flack? NO. Don Imus said somthing that while it may wrong for him to say, ultimatly was NOT that bad. They are making it sound like what he said will prevent any of those girls from becoming somthing. Pathetic.

You say look back 40-50 years, why do you want to live in the past? The only thing that is keeping you, or anyone else (including myself) from being ANYTHING is YOU! There is nothing out there that will stop you from getting that great job, becoming president, other than yourself, yet blacks (and im not turning this into a racial thing towards anyone) insist that its the white peoples fault that they didnt get the job or whatever. Then they bring up what happend years ago. Well, if you want to live your life that way, knock yourself out, have a ball, but when your buddy who doesnt live that way, becomes a succesful, and prosperous businessman/woman, then who do you have left to blame?

Btw, im not singling out anyone, this is nothing more than a generalization. We live in 2007, not 1950!

my question is........why is any of this relevant or having to do with hip hop or the music industry? but to be on point imus is not a known comedian so coming from his mouth and being as old as he is it deff. points directly at racism. if any black/white comedians of our generation said it then it would be funny cuz none of us grew up and actually went through that period of time so there would be no reason why a comedian of our generation would get flamed for saying a comment like that...unless of course the comedian carried on and went into a rage like kramer did cuz that was just as disgusting as this is imo..

Imus isnt a famous comedian? Where have you been for the past 30 years? He is a VERY well known "Shock Jock/Comedian". As for saying its racist because of his age.. Wow, THAT is a racist comment.

People pull the kramer card also, which is fine, he screwed up, but what about Chris Rock going on and on and on and on and on and on and on about it? What about Kamau Kambon, who is not a comedian, who is not a young guy, says kill whitey?

The point is, they made a big fuss over one very minor comment, and let the others "get away with murder" perse.

Onehandpass - its like the Chris Rock says his thing on Comedy shows like HBO specials..which have the US don't have and proable won't watch ..as for the Professor..NO ONE watch C-SPAN to care what was said over there..IMUS is a synicated show so its viewed and heard by Millions in the US.. so the big fuss is justified..as for the words he said not that bad..is totally wrong..

when your in the spotlight of the Media you have to choose the words you use wisely..and he knew better..But he thought it was funny ..the Rutgers girls did not..and thats who matter..

as for comedians..its their life and work to make people laugh and they talk about what they now..you don't have to goto any of their shows..and you wont hear no crap like that if they had a synicated show ..its a line that you can cross when in the eye of the public..

and if you think that was a minor comment heard by millions then you live in denial that racism exist....welcome to the real world...

Desert Ease- it is havin a effect on Music..because they are lookin at all the words and songs that rappers/Artist use to degrade women and race..

i liked on a recent "Trading Wives" show a white woman went into a black family and neighborhood. the black family had "strong black values" and tried to lift up their community with "awareness" type things..... anyhow, the point is: the black wife came on and said they just want reparations for what has happened to them throughout history. all i ask is "what did I do?". nothing. i personally do not owe them, personally, anything. i dont owe anyone who was under any sort of slavery (blacks, jews, etc) any type of reparations whatsoever. it's just too bad that we will forever bear the burdens of our fathers - white, black, asian whatever.

True statement you don't owe anyone anything and you are correct!
The damage is done! And that is just what is is, DAMAGE!
People talk about get over it, it was in the past. The many problems within the Black community today is directly related to the actions of slavery.
Not to use it as a crutch, because I hate that equally. The playing field was never leveled even for us all, you have an extreme unbalance. It's like many white people, and not ALL, had a HUGE headstart in a loooong marathon, and we're still playing catch up while people are saying "just keep on running and shut up". I say not ALL white people, because I have white friends who are struggling with what they have, and I don't mean just financially. No matter how you try to undo the system that was in place, the worst you make it. (AFFIRMATIVE ACTION) please I think it's a joke!
Schools have never been brought back to being equal. That is where alot starts, right in school. NO EDUCATION, POOR REPRESENTATION, ABSENT PARENTS, all equal destruction. And many of the Fathers (parents) are absent because of the LACK of EDUCATION.
WE NEED IT FIXED!
But you are right, it's not your fault!

But I have a problem with the people, both Black and White, who says get over it, it was in the past, move on....Nah, Houston we have a problem!

ALL WE CAN DO IS PRAY!

Here's my two pennies...and this is veering a little bit off subject but not much...

Why do people get surprised when a shock jock takes one a little too far? Isn't that what you'd expect out of a shock jock....to go a little bit more towards the extreme and controversial to pull more ratings?

Was what Imus said out of line? Yes for a publicly aired media, but I think it would have been just as wrong if Steve Harvey or Tom Joyner had said it (and Steve Harvey is somewhat likely to say that and brush it off as comedy).

Sometimes you just have to know what lines to cross and what line to stay even with. Spin is right. When it's all said and done it came down to the GREEN!!!! If that hadn't been involved, you might have gotten an half assed apology and that would have been that.

You lose sponsors because it's the "politically correct" thing to do, then you lose support overall for not being "politically correct". So as a business what's left to do...separate yourself from the problem and point the blame.

Fiev.

i really didn't see hoe they could try to defend imus's statement by trying to bring up what you hear in hip hop. they are totally diff. worlds. (my bad on the imus not comedian thing cuz i really don't know who he is till this happend i just thought he was another talk show host that had a few punchlines)

Point blank racism is very much a live..... i mean hell I still get pulled over on the regular for doing nothing wrong.... I still get looked at weird on campus because of how i dress and the color of my skin....... Hell I've had a teacher look at me like I told him I had some flesh eating virus just because I told him where Im from (Durham, NC).... if that aint racism then truely I dont kno what is....

The reason blacks dont get as much attention for rasist comments is because we've been the product of rasicm for long its almost expected.....
I was reading online today that a 15 year old black girl in Texas got 7 years of prison for pushing a teacher IN SELF DEFENSE.... while the same judge just months earlier gave a white girl probation for burning down her parents house (and it wasnt an accident)..... thats racism.....

Now im not saying I agree with the Kambon statement or that he was justified in saying it but you gotta understand that that attitude stems for years and years of opression and WHitey killing us.... and sure it's 2007 but that dont mean shit.. we're still being held back.... tha fact that we even have to have this conversation.... the fact that it got as much attention as it did lets u kno that..... The fact that there is Affirmative Action.... and Black History month lets you kno that truthfully we're still segregated...... Hopefully one day blacks and whites will be one in this country but today just aint the day......

I guess untill you "fit the discription" a few times you wont really get it....

And Im tired of everytime something like this happens people point to rap music...... oh they degrade women oh the say this they say that..... listen to the dayum words sometime... i kno in my music if I call a women a bitch Im speaking from experience... where i come from a Bitch Is a girl who does dirty shit... i.e. calming to be pregnant when she aint, saying the baby yours when its not, coming to your job raising hell over some dumb shit... those are the women we talk about when we say bitch..... a Hoe is a chick who has slept wit a lot of men..... i.e karen steffens aka superhead (she aint get that name for nothing.... a gold digger... just like a hoe but she do it for money...
See we have justification for everything we say.... people look at music videos as degrading when truthfully its not you can go to the beach, strip club, regular club and a lot of other places and see the same shit if not worse.... and how degrading can it be if the women in the videos agree to it... the human body is a beautiful thing we just show it off.......

and on another note Im tired of hearin people talk about hip hop like there aint no good to it..... you never hear about the uplifting songs or the positive ones and you kno what that is... its nothing but the medias attempt to keep sterotypes a live point blank period.....
