I record music that is in a specific genre (ambient) and a lot of my works utilize mostly synths. So, I have been checking with other artists in this genre and asked about what instruments they use. I would love to be able to check some of them out, but I can't find a single website that seems to have these instruments. Even the company sites don't turn up any search results. Some of them might be older, but I don't know. Since I have checked most of the big on-line stores, where would be a good place to look for these synths that I am looking for...see the list below

Korg Wavestation (which I have seen many people mention)
Synthesis Technology MOTM analog modular synthesizer
Yamaha DX7IID
Yamaha TG77
Prophet VS
Roland D-50

Any ideas?

Most of those were very popular 80/90's keys and shouldnt be that hard to find. Check Ebay, pawn shops and call around to stores that carry used gear.

Sorry, but does anyone know where I could find an Ondes Martinot? Not like I could afford one, but it'd be cool to find one1

This isn't synth related, but you know what instrument I'd like to have? A Kramer Ripley guitar. It has a special pickup that is split into six seperate signals, one for each string, and those are wired to stereo pan-pots. So in essence, you have a stereo guitar. If you listen to Top Jimmy on Van Halen's 1984, you can hear what one sounds like. Listen through headphones, its subtle.

That's what I would like.

MOTM is a modular system. It's pretty highquality, and can be purchased in diy kits or build units. Here's the link: MOTM
However, this can get pretty expensive, even if you build it yourself... Altough the newer small VCO's will save you some...

Roland D50 and Yamaha DX7IID are 80's synths, as was allready mentionned here. They were amongst the first digital synths ever. (Digital generation, DX7 is still famous for it's FM generation, in fact, you can buy an extension card for the yamaha motive, that has the DX7-sound engine on it!!)

The prophet VS was the first digital synth made by Sequential Circuits. Some info on it can be found HERE!

And the korg wavestation is also an older digital synth, but not that old (1990). It's got this weird joystick, and is a wavetable type synthesizer based upon Vector Synthesis
technology.

You can find info on these synths at KEYBOARDMUSEUM.COM.

Yes. I know it all.

These aren't all that rare. The MOTM is still made. Company is not that old either. The other synths are out of production. The D50 and DX7 turn up on the used market pretty much. Wavestation sometimes. The Sequential Circuits is pretty old. This could probably be pretty hard to find. Don't think it had much succes, being one of the first digital synths... But that's just a guess...

you'll never find an ondes there were only a handful created. Johnny greenwood got lucky.

Wow today I found a Korg MonoPoly at a pawn shop for 20.00, took it home and fixed it tonight. I should complain about never being able to find a Neve Console, Maybe one will turn up cheap somewhere.

nice deal

jeez - 20 bucks!

that's a nice synth; i feel like most pawn shops now are part of chains (eg pawnamerica) and have a bizarre system of standard (over)pricing for anything remotely cool.

congratulations!

comb the classified papers. Me and a mate have collected a stack of cool old keyboards (including my personal fave, the casio SK1) from the classifieds and op/pawn shops. we've got a great paper here in perth, western australia, called the quokka, Im sure there would be a local equivalent in most towns. Its really the source for musical equipment secondhand in my town.

Congrats on the Monopoly Darrin. That's like stumbling
on a diamond. It's a real nice synth. I've hold on to mine
since i bought it brand new - never a problem.

I thought I would here that. What were there about 300 made? Greenwood has about 5 or 6 so he REALLY got lucky. I think Kurtzweil is re-releasing it soon however.
