Importing tracks to ANY session?

I have a question regarding importing tracks from any session (whether it's done on Cubase, Cakewalk, Pro Tools, DP, etc..) How do you make so if you load in all the .wav files, it automatically lines up (and you don't have to move the waveforms around)? When I've downloaded .zip's and .rar's from the mp3 mixing contests, they have it so all the files seemed like they were recording from the beginning, so they line up already..is there a way to make it like this, or did these people record from the beginning of the track up until that track was playing something (what would you do, is say you just an overdub that started 2 minutes into a song and only lasts 5 seconds? how would you have it so it's easily importable without a huge guessing game?)

Not really a mixing question, per se, but most programs should let you create a track from the beginning to the end, encompassing the shorter part. In Cubase, there is a pencil icon for "create part" that you just drag over the track to increase it's visualized length. Also, when you export files, you set the start and stop points to be the same for all tracks, so they should line up when re-imported.

Ok sorry wrong forum, I didn't realize. However, I meant say .wav's from Cakewalk are recorded and I want to import them into Cubase..will they line up once imported? No, right? They come up scattered randomly. However, the pencil idea dragging the waveform to wherever is the answer I think I wanted. Thanks!
