Does anyone know how to drop the contents of a minidisc onto a BR864 recording. Relatively new user without that much technical experience. Appears the machine only has an optical OUT and MIDI OUT. Does that mean you can't import sounds from a minidisc or other MIDI device onto it?

Appreciate any help

That's correct. If I read the I/O specs on the Boss correctly, you would have to import the audio data in analog real time. From the line out on the minidisc to thr RCA line in on the Boss.-Richie

thanks Richard - that will have to be my approach me thinks. I have a midi enabled digital piano that I was also hoping to use and I'm pretty sure it doesn't have the RCA plug line out - any idea how to connect this to input sound TO the 864?

Yo, Rust, I'm not familiar with your keyboard, but I'd be surprised if it doesn't have some kind of analog line outs. If it doesn't, you will need some kind of digital to analog convertor. For cheap ($200) TCElectronics M300 works pretty well. Assuming the keyboard has S/PDIF out, you would go from that to the S/PDIF ins on the M300, and by 1/4" analog out to the line ins on the Boss. MIDI is not going to work with the Boss, as far as I know, it has no MIDI capabilities. Good Luck-Richie

Thanks again Richard - My dig piano is a Roland ep7series 2 and has midi in and out (which are useless with the Boss) but I noticed it does have two outputs of guitar lead size -not sure what S PDIF is that you mentioned. I guess I need something that converts these 'guitar lead' size holes to the BOSS analog input.

Have you learned any other tricks on the 864 yet

You can use the optical out of the recorder to record onto minidisc in real time. This is a good way of checking out your mixes on different sound systems without wasting loads of cds for just one song!!
