How important is it to upgrade? Right now i believe my computer has 256 MB, but i haven't finished some wiring so i haven't tested it with recording. Would it be smart to buy something like this? http://cgi.ebay.com/BRAND-NEW-256-M...ryZ14917QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

And also, that looks exactly like the MB stick in my computer, so are they like, somewhat universal? Thanks!

Andy

edit: I have a 256 MB chip, so if i got something bigger, would it even let me use both? I vaguely remember learning something about having to be equal sizes..

what you're talking about is your computer's memory
and yes, it is very important...especially if you want to do recording. 256MB is the minimum you should be running with a home computer, IMO. For recording, a minimum would be 512. 1GB is the recommended.

matching memory is very important....type, not size. For example, that link you gave...that's a PC3200 type. You also need to match the pin configuration, which is probably 184 pin.
You need to pull out the RAM on your computer and read what it says on it. It should have it labeled as to what type it is. Then buy that type.

does it have to be the same company? and how do i find out the pin on it? all i know is i got 256MB sync 133mhz cl3 and it's pcu-1330.

If you have a name-brand computer (or know the motherboard type) you can go to http://www.crucial.com

They have a selector there that will help you find out what type of RAM you need to be compatible.

The memory you had linked on ebay and the memory you had on crucial's website are two different types, and the one on ebay will not work in your system. It sounds like you need pc 133 SDRAM. Which, not to be the bearer of bad news, but it has a LOW end athlon XP and only SDRAM, not DDR. Not completely sure, but you might have a bit of a hard time doing any kind of major recording on it.

Well. I'm just hoping to use it for like.. the next couple years till I'm out of college and I can afford some better stuff.
