ok, i have a vintage teac model 5 mixer. i would like to try the pres in this thing. problem is, it only has unbalance rca outs. what is the best way to hook this up to my alesis hd 24? will a direct box do the trick?

Just run an RCA-TS cable straight in. It will be unbalanced, so keep the cable less than 6', but the impedance is OK.

The level will be a lot lower though (-10 out of the TEAC to +4 in the HD24). As long as you don't crank the Teac to distotion trying to get a higher level it'll be OK.

The level may be -10 coming out of the TEAC, but that is assuming its output really is -10. In general it works that way, but it is not as uncommon as you might think in older equipment to be unbalanced +4.

i will give these a go and see what happens. only downside, the console does not have any phantom power.. i can still use my apex 450 tube mic though... yeah...!!!!
