Immovable Mover - CD Released, Website Up

Hiya guys (and ladies). I've been hanging out here quite a bit lately, mostly in the microphone and rack forums. As this seems to be the forum where everyone shares the products of their effort with one another, here's mine. I've just released my first compact disc under the alias of Immovable Mover. For lack of a better genre to place it in, it's essentially progressive rock, albeit more of the 90125 variety than the Tales from Topographic Oceans sort. It was recorded entirely at home on a very modest budget with a Pro Tools LE/Digi001 setup. My updated website is also up...due to budget constraints, I also did that myself (despite having zero site design experience). I don't know the first thing about creating a Flash-enhanced site, so it's fairly basic...hopefully it'll suffice for now.

By all means, drop by for a few minutes when you get the chance and listen to a few MP3 clips. Opinions/constructive criticism on the site itself are welcome too of course. Seeya there! :)

I poked around, but I couldn't figure out how to get to the mp3s. I clicked on "media," then saw something mentioning mp3 clips, but no actual working links to take me there.
 
YIKES...glad you pointed that out...I must have broken that link the process of reorganizing the pages....going to fix that right now. Thanks for the heads up!
 
The MP3 link is fixed, as are a handful of other more minor problems I unearthed...my apologies to anyone who might have tried to visit the site during the last couple of hours if you ran into any "weirdness" while I was updating pages. I definitely win the "Bonehead of the Week" award for fretting over small details while overlooking something so OBVIOUS. ;)

On a more positive note, the secure online ordering via CDStreet.com is now up and running.

Yep, apart from messing around with putting up pages full of photos for personal use or whatever, this is the first complete site I've put together...that's why I used Yahoo Pagebuilder - site design for dummies, LOL. ;)

Dude, have you ever considered making music for video games or movies? In my opinion (for whatever it's worth) your music will have a hard time fitting in any radio type genre. Plus I also think the sound of the vocals sounded very "country" and did not fit in with the KICK ASS MUSIC!! That's right, KICK ASS MUSIC, I LOVE the bass riffs, guitar sounds, drum accents. I love Rush too, yes I see HEAVY Rush influences there. Dude, make some progressive instrumentals and send this off to game publishers, movie producers, etc. Seriously I've listened to ALOT of music from this forum and your music quality, musicianship, etc, totally RAWKS! Good luck with your career whichever direction you end up taking.

You're definitely right that this material would sound pretty out of place on today's airwaves (mind you, a lot of indie stuff I come across sounds like a concerted attempt to sound as much like everything else on alternative rock radio as possible, and it makes me wonder how folks expect to stand out from the crowd by using that tact?). I'm counting moreso on word of mouth via the Net and (to a greater degree) live performance to develop an "underground" following. IMHO, radio has long since ceased to be a forum for anything remotely adventurous.

As far as the vocals go, opinions have been fairly divided between those who like hearing that more straightforward, almost "classical" singing approach in the context of rock and those who think my voice is too open and smooth-sounding for the genre. At this point, I've just started talking to a local singer with whom I used to play in a cover band. He has moreso the kind of voice typical in rock and excellent stage presence. The idea in the back of my mind is something along the lines of: record a new 4 or 5-song Immovable Mover EP with the guy, get a guitarist and drummer, and then start playing live shows to promote both the EP and the "solo" debut disc.

As with anything else, we'll just have to wait and see what develops. Thanks again for listening! :-)
