A simple problem. My word clock unit clocks everything else but will not clock the delta 1010.

I've been on the phone almost two hours with these guys long distance and they have not found a solution.

I wait about 20 minutes before anybody even picks up, then they have me holding for 5 minutes at a time like I don't have work to do.

What's more, these guys don't even know about the existence of jumpers jb1 and jb2 in the delta card, and they don't know what the heck they do.

They tell me to send the unit in even though its working perfectly, and they tell me it will be gone for 4-6 weeks.

I've always praised m-audio for quality, but the first time I have a problem, they treat me like crap.

I think its time to switch. I hope motu or echo will at least lock to my external wordclock.

Cyan,

What is it that you are trying to do? You may be trying
to incorrectly use word clock. IF so, this is not a Delta
1010 issue.

Hey

Are you POSITIVE, without a DOUBT, that you are using TRUE 75 ohm wordclock cables? If not, make sure. Someone said this could be the problem...
That sucks about M audios tech support... Hmmmm... I was thinking about buying a delta 1010. Maybe not. Anyone else have this problem?
I've been looking at the Motu stuff too, especially the newer better spec stuff.
I found another wordclock manufacturer too, but I know nothing about them. I have the link, but not with me, I'll try to post it soon.

# Hmmmm... I was thinking about buying a delta 1010.

FWIW, my local GC, which has sold a ton of 1010s, has suddenly stopped carrying them "and will be getting no more."

Dunno what that's all about, but it usually means something significant.

Anyway, please write me about that other matter:

CJ,

Try emailing them. At some of these places the phone support people are the very lowest rung of the tech support ladder. I've never called them, but whenever I've emailed Midiman/M-Audio, I've gotten a pretty decent response.

Regarding you Wordclock problem

Hey,

We can fix this in a day, please contact our R/A department at 626 445 2842 or ask for Jesper and I will get you over to R/A and just let me know its a Word clock issue. We just mod the card and you will be fine.

Jesper

Yes, I think M-Audio needs to get an 800 number or something. I spent time on long distance also. Or at least they should compensate you somehow when it is discovered that it is a defective unit. A frustrating thing is that you go through a long process at the end of which they give you something to try and to call back if that doesn't work. Then when it doesn't work you call back, but you get somebody different. So you have to go through the whole explaination again which eats up long distance time. I don't mean to be unfair; maybe this is the case with tech support of a lot of companies.

hi guys,

elbenj. I am using it correctly.I also used the wordclock to clock a lucid ad9624 and a roland vs2480. Both clocked fine. Its as simple as plugging the word out of the clock to the wordin of the slave.

tubedude. Positive without a doubt, this is 75ohm cable. I even have two different makes and I made sure that they said 75 ohm when buyinh, cos there is 50 ohm cable that will not work.

bongolation. I was doing some research and I found out that motu's tech support is just as bad.

Dolemite, Man I emailed them twice. No solution and no response to my last email which I sent last week.

hey Parny, thanks for the offer. Does this mean that this is an existing problem? What kind of mod are you going to make on the card to make it work. Is this mod on the card itself or in the rack unit?
thanks. I will call the number.

JimH. I know how that feels.

Cyan,

What I meant was using it "word clock" as the correct
configuration. Work clock would normally be used to sync
two or more tape machines.

If you are simply wanting to improve A/D conversion utilizing
the Lucid..try using the spdif clock with the Lucid being the
master clock..and the 1010 slaved to it..and this being if you
are playing back a recording from the DAW..i think you were
using Vegas..if you cant do this...then you may have a problem.

Again, use word clock if you want to sync multiple devices
to play back in sync..not to improve wow and flutter in a
recording..make sense?

Regarding Work clock an our tech support

Its a minor mod and you can email me at hardcore@midiman.net and I will get to you right away. Just put workclock in the subject field.

Regarding our tech support, we have 7 agents on the phones (more then any hardware company) and we are swamped and the wait time is up to 20 minutes, but we do follow up and will email you anytime. There are no hardware companies offering a 800 number as this would ruin almost any company but we do pride ourselves in our customer service so please let me know if you run into something "rotten" .......

We really are only here to make recording work...
Peace and happy recording..

Parny

hi parny,

I've sent you the email. thanks

hi elbenj,

I see what you mean now. I guess its like a car owner who soups up his car for racing.I want the delta 1010 to be as "tricked out as possible"

You can hear a difference when syncing to external clock. Not a big difference since the delta 1010 is very good to begin with, but a difference. Especially when recording vocals.

You can even hear the difference when you clock the $3500 roland vs2480 to the lucid. not big, but still there.

I know its laughing gas, but it makes my car go faster.

I know man, I feel yah

But guess what? you are gonna be alright!

You got alot of passion and that is absolutely necessary
to succeed in anything!

What I would suggest is that you work on those songs
you posted. I thought they all had potential. You know,
brush up the vocal performances, retrack everything to
get hotter levels and you have a decent enough ear to
get where you want to be..

And it was possible with the gear you had prior to this
stuff :)...

Hang in there!

thanks elbenj for the kind words.

Since all this gear swapping and updating, I've not even written a new song.

Also, the fact that I've spent $1500 in the last month puts a lot of pressure to produce "perfect" work and you wont believe how I fret over the smallest wrong, even though it would have been just perfect last month. Now, I am talking about "oh, it just doesn't have the depth that I want" etc.
I might have been better off staying with my original config.

peace

now I know why m-audio was the fastest growing recording company of 2000.

They are shipping me a modded pci card via overnight delivery. Alls I have to do is ship my current one when this one gets in.
Golly, I could be up and running tomorrow.

I forgive m-audio completely. You guys can be sure that I will be up and about bragging about how the delta 1010 is the best value for money anywhere. Just like old times.

peace

Cyan,

Glad to have ya back in the M-Audio fan club.....this is why Ill suggest them over Echo, Aardvark, etc. any day of the week.....
