Hi guys, this is obviously my first post here, ive been doing a lot of reading through this site.

Anyways my question (that i havent really found in the searches) here is that with my computer i have the creative platinum pro (with external box), and am thinking about purchasing an m-audio axiom-49 midi controller and a Boss dr880. Now all these units have the midi plug port on them, so i will be able to hook these two together and then into my computer?

i like to spend money "once" on an item, not keep upgrading. (ofcourse if i ever get good at this stuff, i might upgrade more, but for now feel this is sufficient)

Im just not sure on how to do it, as ive never touched midi before, or can i use just the usb?

Thanks for you time guys, it is appreciated

That made me chuckle.

It sound like you're saying once you touch midi it will infect everything you do or say.

First of all, midi and USB are one in the same. The language hasn't changed, just the method of conducting it into a computer. Same with Firewire. These are just two convenient jacks that every modern desktop computer shares.

The Axiom 49 is a very good choice as a midi controller and will plug into your computer over USB. Then the DR880 - also a good choice - will need to be attached to the midi out of the Axiom and slaved to the tempo of your software in order for it to sync properly.

You will also need a small mixer to plug the DR880 and the computer into, as well as some monitors or headphones. For software, try Reaper - LINK. It a shareware program that is easy to learn and easy to love. For a small mixer, I recommend this one.

thank you for the info, i would have been scratching my head for hours wondering how to do this.
