just played a "powerbeat"el cheapo bottom of the barrel beginners kit, with the factory heads..... and the toms are some of the nicest sounding toms i have heard in a long time.... i got rid of the snare and bass drum quick smart, replaced the bass drum with an old pearl 22" wood-fibreglass, and the snare with an old 6" generic pearl snare (tuned to perfection :) ).... and i just couldn't get off the damn kit.... the toms sounded really big and tonal (12" and 16")... cant believe it all this from a $400aussie (probably $150u.s.) drum kit.

hmm now that i think about it perhaps this extras one come from the thin shells and the thin heads, or maybe thats just the 1:10000 drum kit that comes out of a cheapo factory and sounds nice... ah well i guess the lesson is never to dissmiss gear just because of the badge thats on it :D

Yeah, I recently found a Pulse 5pc kit with tom mounts on the rims. I asked a drum tech if you can get a good tone with them and he said get new heads like Hydrolic ones or pinstripes and they will have killer tone.

I hope they do because they are 150.00 used and I could use a break on a set.
