All you have is now
Did a one shot live take of this...been messing with the style and adding a few lyric lines. Not sure why but when it encoded it was really low volume need to re-encode but here's the idea...

I'm not the only one....dang!

Yeah, I enjoyed that. Bring up that low 'one' (the second last one, almost inaudible) at the end.

Thanks Dobro...pretty much zero editing other than cutting the count in, duplicating and hard panning the vocal L&R and then shifting the piano slightly to the left...just messing around with placement.

For some reason couldn't get automation working in Reaper last night to knock down the silent areas where you hear me breathe or raise / lower anything. It was rough and live ...I may redo ...just been messing with the song for the last few weeks and decided to try and track it to see if it sounded OK the way I'm doing it

wowza! superb voice. great sound on everything. great job!

Good job, Tom! Sounds amazing and inspiring. Single take? I could maybe do it in three (dozen) :D

Sounds great to me. Never heard the original.

I really like your voice. You have a gravel in there that sounds fantastic. Like a male Janis Joplin.

Very good :thumbs up:

Gracias Mr. Clean!....Here's the original...the dude writes some hits... I definitely took some liberties with it...and took it to a different place...

NIce work. I don't understand why you copies & panned the vocal though.
The stereo image is a little weird. A stereo spread of the piano may have been a nicer option to balance the simplicity of the arrangement.

Thanks Ray....I'm new to the whole mixing /placement thing so I'm just experimenting ...Good is subjective and I liked the vox better doubled and panned to the extremes L&R I read about the approach sometime back and it seems it is a very common thing to do......not so sure about the placement of the piano (to the back and slightly left)

Nice stuff. The mix is simple enough but I'd of put the piano in the center and slightly doubled the vocal for space. It's still really low volume though. I was thinking Randy Newman/Joe Cocker listening to this.

I didn't like the panning. I'd rather have had a real wide piano with the vocal maybe also recorded in stereo and moving gently during the performance.

But the performance was really stellar.

Thanks Schwarzenyaeger and Stu... I'll remix later this evening and see what it comes out like

Wow, man, what a great and completely infectious voice and delivery you have. I got sucked in right from the first moments and wasn't let go until the end. Honestly, this is one of those songs where I just enjoyed the piece so much that it transcends any need to listen to it in any other way. I don't want to pick it apart, I just want to listen and enjoy.

Killer playing too. Just dripping with style and emotion.

Going to spin it again. Nice one. Killer.
