Ok, I'm working on my studio and I'm wondering..... the recording booth at the moment hasn't had anything done to it and it has a nice amount of reverb in it, maybe it would be a good idea if I.. (by the way, I'm trying to build this studio with very little money... Not that I'm poor or anything, it's just that.. I'm doing it to... er ...to test ...my ability ....in... er .. studio building.. display thing,... yeh, and it's not even my studio anyway!!.... But let's just pretend that it was) ..was to leave the recording booth without any sound proofing and have it as a bathroom sort of reverb room and when I want to record something dry I could fill the room with..... 8 polystyrene blocks 1m x 60 cm covered in material from the bottom of a sofa to absorb the high frequencies to stop the reverb and make the room dry!! Does anyone think that it would be a good idea?

Nope. you'd get about the same effect with wood blocks, concrete blocks, etc - polystyrene foam is a CLOSED cell foam. Totally worthless for anything acoustic, other than possibly filling hollow tubular furniture with spray-foam to help kill vibrations and rattles.

What you want is a more even absorption of all frequencies. If you were to read more than a couple of threads on this, you'd see that rigid fiberglass insulation (not actually rigid, sometimes called semi-rigid) or rockwool, mineral wool, slag wool, these all have similar absorption characteristics, all absorb low end better than equivalent thicknesses of foam, all are more difficult to find locally.

Check out the closest supplier(to you) of this chain for availability -

Hey vangore. I don't think "lol" is appropiate. Lots of people, me included don't have the resources to IMMEDIATLY build what we would like. Being financially responsible to lifes drain on cash flow is NO reason to have jerks like you laugh at not having enough to do what we would like. So shame on you. I hope you find yourself in a similar predicament someday. Apparently, you have LOTS to learn about respecting peoples circumstances.

rick i think you took my comment way out of context, if you read the original post he was joking bout not having the resourses and joking that it wasnt his studio i was merely going along with his joke and i would never try to insult something by saying what you obviosly thought i meant.

By the way i dont have the resources either.

Vangore, when I read this again, I STILL get the same impression. But since you are enough gentleman to explain, I too apologize if I took it the wrong way. And
Jamie, sorry for stepping in on your thread. Sometimes, Irish temperment flares
on impulse. I just don't believe in laughing at someone elses circumstances. Unless of course, they got drunk and put themself there. Like SOMEONE I knew one time. :o :D

"Fitzpatrick" is about Irish as you can get. :D (My Dads name is Patrick Fitzpatrick!!)

Good friend of mine is named Padraigin O'Conghailaigh. She has a heavy brogue from growing up in a gaelic-only speaking household. Though when she sings, she has near-perfect english with a slight texan drawl from growing up in Addison Texas. Though the word swaps always amuse me. "Mum" instead of "Mom", etc.

Welcome to "Ya call that a studio, do ye?"

where we try to take the average Irish home studio and try to make it a little less crap :D

First step, we empty out the ashtrays, which gives the feeling that there haven't been a lot of people smokin' inside :p

Next, we move the mixing desk from the wall, which helps reduce standing waves at the mix position, and also covers up the urine stain on the floor

My 2g-grandfather Francis Cormick was from Cork. I don't know how he made his way to the US, since when I visited, I drove around the city centre for over half an hour in a circuitous route before I finally figured out how to escape

Hello! I was just wondering if anyone knew the answer to my question?
I would like to.. my "friend" wants to know what to do! "what's da big oidea"? Oh by the way, my friend doesn't mined you joking (97.3933333333333333 of the time I am joking!) plus it would be silly to get cross about a horrible remark such as that one! (only joking). I hope that I don't have to put "only joking" after every joke!! (only joking!) Anyway, please let me know if you have a solution to my question!

Thanx
