... I'm not trying to stir up a 'cheap Chinese' argument, but the brass insert just fell out of my AKG C1000S clip and ... lo and behold ... the thread is completely plastic - well, *was* completely plastic ... now it's completely bald.

Made in Austria. Even the 'big' companies cut corners (not to mention this being a crap mic).

I recently made mention of the Senn MD-441 clips also having plastic threads...........I had to buy a new clip a few months ago and it cost me approx., $130 Aust.

Just glue the brass insert into the plastic with epoxy.-Richie

I will ... I'm really not being funny, but, well it's one of those myths about Chinese-made stuff that evidently isn't fair.

I have two MD441's with the black mic clips that are indestructable, get them.

No they don't.

They make what they're commissioned to make. If the design and QC are lacking that's entirely the fault of the company outsourcing the work.

Besides, where do you think the various AKG and Audio Technica electret condenser mics (not to mention the AT4040 externally biased condenser) are made? Harrogate!?

I agree - this is one of the reasons Alan cites for SP being so highly regarded above most other Chinese-built mics - that they have their own designs rather than stock ones.

But Mark, I don't think they'll know where Harrogate is. It's about 45mins from me, and I can almost smell the snobbery from here ;)

For the sake of fairness, whilst my C1000 says Made In Austria on it, I just noticed the mic clip (temporarily demoted to desk paperweight) says 'Swiss Made' on it ...

They make cheap egg beaters too, Chinese watches also suck... it's no myth that the Chinese make cheap crap.

Egg beaters ... damn that was a funny thread!

I know what you mean but I don't think it's something inherent in Chinese production - I don't know enough about the mic factories to argue whether one is better than another.

And I think it's a shame that hardware, home inprovement stores and etc are full of cheap Chinese made crap.

Well, if you Yanks would stop insisting on overpaying yourselves, and demanding excessive profits, perhaps those hardware stores could be full of American made crap :p

I doubt anybody here is responsible for setting prices and doing corporate gouging.

The vast majority should not be held accountable for the actions of a small few. Otherwise, you Brits should be held accountable for overpaying excessive taxes via the $6/gallon you pay for gasoline, when the product costs nowhere near that amount.

:p

Don't even get me started!! 82 pence per litre?????

Still ... the sooner we get off oil the better. I'll save that debate for another thread though.

For $100 I'll take a "cheap Chinese" Groove Tubes Vipre mic pre all day long...

Chris

I spent almost twice that just on lunch today... and is gas cost in CA out of this world... hell yeah, it cost close to $150 in gas just to do a little water sking. But on the bright side of things... what a great day it was today playing in the water and sun.

If we stop buying "cheap crap", they'll stop making "cheap crap".

Damn DJL, there's no avoiding it ... your life is way cooler than mine. I wrote an essay today. On theology.
