Hey everyone, I'm new to Home Recording. I just picked up a Blue Microphones Yeti USB mic and I'm using it for vocal covers, demo songs etc. I'm into deathcore/metalcore, so that's my primary area of...expertise? haha

I'll be sure to flood this place with questions and answers, when I can supply them. =D

Just a quick note, if anyone is looking for a decent USB mic, go with the Yeti. I love it haha. Not only does it pick up screaming vocals, but it can be useful for many other recording purposes. Well worth the buy.

I've always liked the look of the Yeti and it's name kinda matches it's looks.

Personally? Nothing, considering this is the first mic I've bought. But I didn't choose it out the blue; I did a lot of research, read up reviews, and educated myself as much as possible. Sadly, no one put much time or effort into reviewing the Yeti for its capability to pick up screaming vocals, which is basically what I was buying a mic for in the first place. But I essentially went out on a limb and got lucky. Haha.

I have a youtube vocal cover up using the Yeti, so I'll post the link when I get my 5 posts. I also just made a quick video review of the Yeti and its correlation with screaming vocals, in case anyone is interested...since I haven't seen anyone yet take that angle. ;D

But yeah, I haven't compared the Yeti physically to anything else, but I did my research and made the best possible educated decision I could with the resources available to me. And like I said, I got lucky. =)
 
True, but as with any mic, they differ in quality. Some mics don't pick up certain vocal registers, especially when you get into sub-vocals. I mean, the Yeti definitely picks things up my integrated mic on my laptop doesn't. But that's kinda obvious. haha
 
actually, and no offense, but if youd done your research youd find that usb mics are mainly for podcasts and the like....


if you get results you are satisfied with then great, but a read of the mic forum here would have gave you better options in the long run.

Yeah I understand that. But like I said, I don't have any decent output equipment anyway, and with my budget, I don't have the money for decent amps and stuff. but yeah, for what I'm doing, it serves my purposes well. Thanks =)
 
Then I guess this is what you would consider a stepping stone to a much better set up once you have a decent budget that would allow you to have a proper recording situation.

Are you saying that comparing a low end USB mic to an integrated laptop mic is NOT standard practice? ;)
