OK, I'm an old techie, and I love my guitars. I know some folks want old analog, but I'm more of a digital guy.

My goal is to compose cool stuff. I have a few guitars, Ibanez Sabre and Ibanez Proline 1880, Fernandes Nomad, Ovation Acoustic/Electric, and an Alvarez Electric with a modulus graphite neck. I have an Epiphone Les Paul Studio in the works.

Effects: I have a nuber of Danelctro mini's that I don't really use, as well as a Zoom 505 II I don't do much with. I primarily use a Digitech RP2000 and I recently made a deal on a new Roland Gr-33 guitar synthesizer. There's another pedal or two in a box somewhere.

Amps: I own an old small Marshall Valvestate amp, good enough for monitoring. I use a Line 6 GuitarPort, and I'm thinking about getting either a Line 6 Pod or a Behringer V-Amp.

Software: I have ordered a legal copy of Acid Pro 4.0 bundle with Sound Forge 6. I have access to other software, including Reason 2.0

I have a couple of other items worth mentioning, a new Yamaha DD-55 electronic drum set and an old Casio keyboard I'll use as a midi station. I'm thinking about upgrading the soundcard I've got and maybe getting a modelling amplifier.

I'm a novice, but one blessed with a decent day job and an aptitude for technology.

So, am I off to a decent start?

So take the Acid, with Reason, and Forge ahead!

Have a nice trip, and post links your mixes in the mp3 forum.

Good choice on the Yamaha DD-55 and cheesy Casio keyboard!;)

The DD-55 won't cause me too much frustration, and I won't be using anything in the Casio other than the keyboard itself - yes it's cheesy, but it has keys and supports midi. I'll probably be depending on the Roland GR-33 a great deal. The Digitech RP2000 can do a decent bass, so long as I avoid sweep picking.

Yo Brain, welcome to the board! Do you do vocals at all? It seems like you're set up for all kinds of DI and MIDI, without a mic or pre in sight. Regarding amp modelers, the Vamp II is cheap and has some very good sounds, but check your return policy, as a number of them produce high levels of unwanted noise. The POD Pro doesn't give you as many cool sounds, but it does give you more routing options, and it doesn't produce much noise that the original modeled amp didn't. That's part of the downside of modeling. If you model a noisy amp, like many classic favorites, you tend to get a noisy model.-Richie
