I thought I had my desktop replacement laptop figured out.
Then I started doing some more in-depth research along with questions on this forum and I now know I am NOT going to go with the Dell. No DDR5 GPU option and tired of trying to explain what I want to those who barely speak English but work for their sales customer service (no offense, just a fact).

A call to HP produced better results, however, I am not paying $1,700 for an Envy just to get a backlit keyboard but sacrifice a 7200rpm HDD (they only offer a 5400rpm in the Envy). I can't "type" properly but I am the fastest search and peck person you'll ever meet...but I have to look at the keyboard.

So looking at the new dv6 and dv7 Quads from HP looked promising until no backlit keyboard option, but at least they offer a DDR5 GPU, coupled with the i7-2630qm and a solid 2 year warranty. Sigh.

My budget is $1,200 delivered, no more. I'd really like a 17" laptop if at possible but when starting to look at brands such as Asus, Sager, Lenovo etc I am lost. I don't know much about those brands, where to buy them, etc.

Help me out here! $1,200...what would you get for MMORPG gaming (Rift), internet, email, and music creation with Finale 2011?

Computers are tricky. My advice to you would be to check the compatibility of the software/hardware you want to use first as this is likely to dictate more what you need. Beyond that, it's probably just personal preference; would you rather have a fast spin ahrddrive or a backlit keyboard for example. Sounds to me like you've really done your research. If you're not sure about a brand name then just move on to something else. It might mean you pay a smidge more, but at least you'll be confident in what you're buying, an that's the point really isn't it?

Sager is a very reputable brand, if not on the pricey side. You can buy direct from them at sagernotebook dot com or from a reseller like powernotebooks dot com (you'll get the same pricing either place but the reseller may provide a longer warranty). Hope this helps.

I have had good luck with Toshiba laptops - anything with a dual or quad core 64 bit with 4gigs of ram should be fine for gaming and recording (get something with a good video card for gaming obviously)

If you just get the best gaming laptop you can afford it will be more than enough to record and mix on -
