hello everyone

ive been looking at the rode nt1a and the at4040...

im looking for a mic that will make my voice sound a lil deeper and fuller since i have a high pitched voice

any help will be greatly appreciated

I had an AT 4033a which the 4040 was intended to replace. It'd sound good on Barry White. Or on non-baritone Female singers. But for typical male voices in the Baritone range, it's kind of weak. At least the 4033a is. I'm not sure how much different the 4040 is. But you might find a 4050 or 4060 more to your liking.

i see the at4050 is out of my budget...my limit for a mic is 200 maybe 220 or so

consider an EV RE20/27 or a shure SM7....

the ev re20 looks oh so nice but its way aoutta my budget

Sm58, you'll get plenty of proximity effect and if you learn out to use it it will sound good

yup, if you have preamp to push it

I have heard from several sources that you need a lot of gain for these, but I have not had any trouble out of any of my pre's on my sm7...

I say go for the AT4040....It is really a great mic, and lately, I have had a lot of business from several local hip hop artists....the 4040 has been the favorite over a PE modded Oktava MK319, an SM7, a Studio Projects C1, CAD M177, Blue Baby Bottle, and the usual sm57/58.

i see thst its 100 bucks wouldnt the nt1a or at4040 work better? im looking for a deepr sounding mic and i was told to go with a condenser

Sorry, but none of the mics discussed on this board will work for you. That includes Neumann's, AKG, Telefunken, Sony or any of the big dog companies. The budget mics are also disqualified.

All of the mics discussed here can recording other things besides rap, as can most microphones, so by the definition of the title of this thread they all have to be ruled out.

When they invent a "stricty rap vocal" microphone we'll let you know ASAP.

Sorry.:(

do you know if guitarcenter or sam ash lets you try it out?
