I'm looking for a new mic for vocals. I've come to realize I don't like neutral mics on my voice. I'm currently using a v67, which is ok, but a tad dark, but easily beaten by my new aquired Rode NT2 ($100 off craigslist!). I like the presence of the NT2, it really compliments my voice, but am still trying to try out different mics. I'm going to be trying out a tube mic or two (hopefully Rode NTK), and hopefully a Studio Projects C1.
I have a very clean/flat preamp that I love very much (DAV BG1) and I think I'm done trying to find a neutral mic that makes my voice sound the way I want it to. Can anyone recommend any specific mics that are considerably colored (perhaps a tube LDC) and/or considerably bright/present? I'm ALWAYS having to boost a few dB's around 3-6kHz to get the presence I am looking for for vocals; I'd rather get a bright mic and have to eq less. Perhaps I should try out the C1?
