Hi guys,

I've been browsing the forums for a few day so i know you're going to be brutally honest with me and i really need to know, for once and for all, do i have a voice worthy of a stage?

It's a terrible recording, i just pressed play on my laptop and recorded with my ipod.

When I first read your post I didn't expect a lot, but you really have a wonderful voice! It makes me feel ashamed 'bout my post... When I hear the difference... :-/

You really have to keep on singing and practicing! You got talent!

Okay, I'm going to be a bit more detailed.

You have a good voice for musical theatre which is a genre I love and used to do a lot of live sound mixing for (I'm mainly retired now).

In the demo, you had trouble hitting a few of the sustained high notes--and when this happened you went a bit "pitchy" for a phrase or two afterwards. I doubt this would be anything to worry about and a good vocal coach could give you some hints that could cure these minor issues within a few sessions. A good vocal coach can also give you hints to protect your voice--seven live shows a week without some training can destroy your voice pretty fast!.

In addition, for musical theatre, work on your acting skills and make sure you take some dancing lessons if you haven't already.

A bit of training and you could have a career. Good luck and see you when a tour you're on comes through the QPAC in Brisbane or Empire in Toowoomba. Heck...I might be mixing you when the tour gets to Toowoomba--I still do a few freelance shifts there!
 
Great vibrato and yes you can sing well. What "stage" are you aiming for?

Important question.
However, your voice is pretty good ~ just untrained as can be seen at those points when you go off key a bit. What you require is something that's within your power ~ practice. Allied to perhaps a little training. But mainly practice.
 
+1 to what Grim and Bobbsy said.

Your voice is good, and well suited to theatre.

A vocal coach will help you keep your voice under control in the more dramatic moments.
 
Hell, somebody down under hook this girl up with some studio time. Give her a real demo

Wow, thank you guys so much for your comments, i really appreciate them all. :D

The stage for me is definitely the musical theatre stage but i'd love to do cabaret and lounge singing(jazz) at some point to. I have studied acting at the VCA and also have dance experience but singing is my true love.
I wish i could afford to get a real recording done, then maybe i could get an agent to give me a few minutes to listen to me, they won't at the moment because i don't have a performance degree or professional experience. But you can't get a professional audition/experience without an agent so its a catch 22. :(

I know what you mean about my high end going pitchy, i actually get really anxious when i belt so my soft pallet clamps down. I spent most of my life singing in my chest voice so i'm only just learning about the mix and head register which needs allot of practice and training to smooth out the transition. Plus i need the confidence to not freak out by how loud the belt gets.

I was about to make the same offer as gecko zzed but I suspect "outside Brisbane" is even more expensive than Tasmania.

However, if you could send either Gecko or me your backing track and as good (and clean) a version of the vocal as you can get (use headphones so there's no music on the vocal) I'd be happy to try and put them together for you with a bit better quality. It's something I've done for a lot of aspiring UK theatre people and a few even have managed to get some parts in theatre and TV. Others, funnily enough, have become professors in a science department at the university in Melbourne--but that's another story!

Yep . . . I'll give it a go.

For the exercise I'd be happy with reasonable MP3 files.
