I'm having a problem with my instrumental making my master fader clip

Hey when I load up my instrumental, its peaking around 12dbs or +10.5 on the vol. and when i turn down the track fader.The vol stays the same and its making my master fader clip. How do I turn down the instrumental track fader and make the vol level drop down also. Does it have anything to do with the pre/post -roll fader button?

If you're dropping the level of the fader, there must be a drop in the level being indicated on the master track. Whether the metering on the audio track itself is pre or post-fader wouldn't matter when we're talking about the level of the master track.
