Do any of ya'll have some advice when recording voices on mics? Cuz everytime I record my voice on my Shure PG-58 mic, they turn out seeming to break apart. Like some parts of the vocals are louder and some parts are low. Any of ya'll please give me some advice on recording vocals?

A couple of things to look into:

Compression. You may need to compress your vocal tracks to make them smoother. Do search here for compression before asking how :) (It has been covered a bunch).

Vocal technique. Do you feel like you are singing at a constant level? Tyr pulling away from the mic on louder parts and get closer on softer parts. A pop screen could help too.

Cheers
Kevin.

um..

i don't know about compressions..i did a search on it on ask.com..doesn't say anything bout it.

So with a pop screen.. does that really help?

I'd have to say from the info so far in this thread that the technique would be the first pace to start. Or... stay a good 8-12" away from the mic to begin with and see where that takes you. Another trick I've tried that seems to work well is to put the mic about 6-8" in front of the singer pointed up at a 45 degree angle pointed at the chin. This way, the singer is not singing directly into the mic and has a smoother overall result.

Hope this works...
