Alright, so, I've been singing and working on placement\breathing.
And I really think I've got it down packed because I was hitting a note of a song called "Pink Roses" from Glassjaw, and I was hitting it higher than the original song.. and my highest note sounded like my HEAD voice. It felt so smooth that I don't even know it was my head voice or my regular high note.

It seems like, the more air I inhale into my diaphragm, the easier the high notes get. And everything seems like it's doing what it's supposed to. I feel no tension and it feels almost like air is just gliding past the back of my throat.

Did anyone else feel like this after they felt they progressed while singing?

Good job notebook!!! :)

What kind of things do you do to practice? and improve your range, I feel terrible about my voice!!!

There's this song called "Tonight" by a band called AD (or maybe it's Kerry Livgren with AD before they actually just called themselves AD) on the 'Timeline' album and in the runout after the final chorus, the singer lets out this really long "Toni-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-ight" and when I used to sing along, I'd run out of breath long before the end and have to pause. As I practiced some years later, I'd always use that song as the benchmark of how far I was getting. Then came that momentous day when, not only could I sing it without a pause, I actually had gas in the tank ! Not much, but more than I needed. It was a nice feeling. Sometimes, for a joke, I'd end a song with an utterly sustained last syllable and people (many of whom are much better singers than I) would just look at me thinking "Wow !". But it's just persistence and practice. And I'm getting lazy again......

I was a choirboy when I was 10/11 but during my teens and early 20s a combo of smoking and not singing took it's toll - or so I thought. I thought my voice was pretty ropey, but people always liked it. I was pretty useful at times with harmony because I tended to think alot of the time harmonically but I struggled with high notes. Anyway, cutting a long story short, a friend I used to sing with was trying to get a group of us to improve our ranges and she said that first, we needed to know what our range was. Mine was 3 octaves but the higher notes made me feel quite faint. And induce coughing. But just following the notes on a piano or guitar and staying with it until you can almost relax is a good way to start. But take it easy. It may hurt to start with.

Definitely, I hear that.
Thanks, ben! :]

well, I downloaded this singing lessons thing from this site.
It's pretty legit, because the site I got it from is like.. a bunch of stolen free stuff, XDXD. but nah, I sing pretty much every day, and that's one thing I consistantly do to get better. And as Grim said, I use some other singers that could hit higher notes than me as a benchmark, and work and work and work at it.

I have to work on relaxing my jaw now, though.

I speak and sing from about as far back as the back of my tongue...which is terrible...it should be down in my chest where my voice comes from. I put it down to smoking, nervous tension and something to do with my balls.

What can I do?
