Ilok brain cramps

Can anyone explain simply the way an ilok works?

am I right to understand, you:
buy an ilok
Register it and open an account
Then if you buy a plugin that requires the ilok, when you purchase the plugin
you get a code that goes in the ilok
allowing you to use the plugin

just sort of confused!

Usually it works like this

You buy an Ilok
Set up the software and open an account
Buy some plugs for example Waves
You log onto your waves account put in your ilok account details and instruct it to deliver the lisence to your ilok acct (by giving your ilok account name)
You log back on to your ilok account and the newly purchased licenses should be there
insert the ilok and sycronize so the licenses are downloaded on to the ilok

when you fire up your DAW if you try to use the plugs it will request you plug in the ilok or you just leave the ilok permanently plugged in to a USDB port out of the way around the back of the computer so your plugs can alwys find their licenses and just fire up
