Just got the guts make my first post. Go easy!

Anyhow, this first post is of a very acoustic "I'll Stay". Wrote the song about 6 months ago. This one came together very quickly. Pretty simple song with some chord progressions I like.

Was recording through a Tascam 1082 into Sonar 6 Producer, using MXL v67 mic on both guitar and vox. Guitar has been double, nudged slighlty off of each other and panned relatively hard. (I liked the effect)

Let me know what you all think!

Cool sounds. The vox sound good to me. Very nice voice. The guitars sound good. The percussion is too bright for me as well as way too upfront. Id rather have the guitar and vocals upfront in the mix. Very nice performance, awesome for a first posted song!:)

Beautiful song man. Dang... That is nice. Sorry, i have nothing to actually help though. :D

very good song. sweet vocals. i think near the end you used a bit too much reverb but if that's the effect you were going for then that point is moot.

i think it's a radio worthy tune :)

It's a very good song as it is acoustically-you have some great dynamics happening with it. It would also sound great with a little more instrumentation, such as bass, maybe some keyboard or guitar and percussion. It stands well on it's own though, congrats on a great song!

Awesome song and good job with the mix!

You have an amazing voice... Reminds me a little of Chris (Garth B.) Gaines...

:)

That shaker thing is super bright. The rest sounds pretty good.

Sounds pretty good to me;)

In the break with the heavily verbed Oh's I think I personally would pull some verb from ther vox and try adding some verb to the guitar so the whole song moves into that space instead of just the vox.

You might be able to leave the verbed vox alone if you verb the guit to some what match for that section.

The song just doesn't enter that dreamy state fully during the break that the vocals seem to intend. Harmonies would be nice too.

Anyway, I'd take the plunge and put it into and back out of a dreamy state during the break or loose alot of the vocal verb.

Just my take.

Good song man.

Great Comments

Thank you all so much for the great comments. I guess we're all a little freaked out the first time we send stuff out there.

Thanks as well for the awesome feedback. I have some really great points to focus on the next time I sit down at my DAW. After listening to "I'll Stay" again, I think I really need to take that suggestion to warm up the purcussion part. It really IS too bright. But seriously, EVERY comment on here has been valid and really helped me. Thank you all!

Feel free to keep commenting, if there's anyone who wants to...the more I learn, the better!

I'm going to disagree with what other people have said. I LOVE the verb on the "oh"'s. I just wish you had some on the vox for the rest of the song. The vox are dry for my taste. Maybe just touch of verb and a very subtle triplet delay. Other than that I think it's great. The Guitar "delay" method you used is very tasteful, and I actually liked the percussion as is. I also thought the vocal could have probably been at least 2.5 db higher to stand out in the mix.

Very pretty song!!!

Listening as I type:

1. percussion a tad bright.
2. guitars = nice!
3. voice = nice!
4. mix so far = nice...
5. I love the slap on the guitar...similar style to my own...
6. Production wise, if you add anything to this, i'd add Bass/Drums only...
7. Oh's...nice and dreamy.
8. OK, right after the Oh's, you need a solo instrument to carry a few 4 bars or so, then back to the verse...Violin? Verb/Echo drenched PHAT STrat sound...? dunno...
9. and I'm spent...

Very nice song! Nice mix, nice flow, nice everything. as one comment above stated, the song stands on its own right now. Good work sir!

If you get a chance, listen to Diego Torres "Penelope" Live and Unplugged. Your song could take on his 'production' style and fit perfectly...these are all just my opinions...(but i'm always right...)
