I saw this coming, but i never tought it was going to be so BAD.

What a shame. i don't even have 2 months with my 1010LT, and i choose it over an MBOX and AP-2496.

Yeah, I hear you on that. I was really annoyed when I found out that the Digi01 I purchased last year can't upgrade. I love ProTools but it will be some time before I can afford to upgrade.

This is why I would never use protools (well the main reason), too many hoops, too many restrictions on how it's used.

Industry standard my ass

It will work, according to some guys over at the SOS forums.

The key word here is support from Digi.

yeah, 'cause there sure isn't any studios in the industry that use it
Yeah but when you think about it, they must have really had some clever marketing folk back in the day... I mean They call it PRO Tools, then every n00b and his dog see's the word PRO and assumes it must be ProTools or bust. Sure back in the day there wasn't a lot of real alternatives, but now it doesn't really apply (I mean look how purdy an good Sonar 4 is). Its kinda like Behringer putting PRO at the end of every single one of their product codes. ;) :D

Pro is an overused word, IMHO. Marketing folks slap it on a lot of stuff to try and lend it credence. Shit, when I got started in home recording, I had only heard of Cakewalk. I didn't like its interface, and ended up going with Vegas. I looked at Sonar recently, though, and I wish I had some spare change lying around. I already cleaned out the couch.... I guess I have to wait for Uncle Sam to reimburse me...

Oh, yeah, and I also heard they got most of the bugs out of n'track 4.-whatever they are up to now. It's much cheaper...

Certainly there is plenty of stuff that competes and in my opinion beats Pro Tools LE.

However, in the end Pro Tools HD is still king and will be for quite some time.

Funny though, when I look at real pro gear on websites and stuff, they practically never brag about how 'pro' their gear sounds. It's almost always the lower end gear that is market as 'pro', the high end gear just is.

I'm living and dying with MOTU right now, they seem to provide fairly decent competition to the "standard". The customer service can be shaky at times though. Of course I'm not referring to a Pro Tools ICON workstation or their HD3 Accel sytems. We can't forget we're still at homerecording.com, not commericalfacilityrecording.com.

Amen.

I'm not a protools dependent, cause i've never use it to produce anything.

But everytime i found some pluging that only works with protools, i start thinking about that mbox i let go. :D

Sooner or later I am gonna have to go to Protools and not by choice.

It is the program of choice at my school and I better have it unless I want to do all my labs in the school competing over the same board.

It works!!!, you can download the demo version, the problem is, as somebody mention it, SUPPORT. Yesterday I went to an M-Audio clinic and the guy told me that in a month or so Pro-Tools will be working with all M-Audio cards.

Quite so, there is a new version of PT called M-powered that will work with certain M-audio hardware, there is also a special new Delta card driver for this (.50).

Head to the M-audio site for details.
