One Hit Wonder
I posted this particular collaboration with Jagular a couple of weeks ago. At that time I wanted to get something posted relatively quick, so the mix job was a bit rushed.

Now that I've a little more time to play with it (plus the benefit of your earlier crituques and suggestions), I've posted a remix. (And to those who suggested the guitars were out of tune, I even retracked the guitar solo. :) )

So as the title suggests, if you have nothing better to do, and want to take a listen a give me your comments, they would be appreciated. (I'm really fishing for compliments here. Suggested responses are, "Great job, Mike." "Wow, this is much better than the first one." "C'mon, I'm guessing you really sent this out to George Martin to clean it up, didn't you.") :D

Once again, kudos to Jagular for a top notch vocal performance.

I'll Still Be Loving You

C'mon, I'm guessing you really sent this out to George Martin to clean it up, didn't you? :D :D

Seriously, this sounds good to my ears. Very good, indeed! :)

LMAO - NICE POST, D!

hehehehee...I really love that. Nothing wrong with doing a little fishing.

Still sounds like a great collab, but honestly, there are some things I like about the first mix better. Like, for example, this one seems kinda' pinned to the ceiling. It HAS to be louder than the first one, which is not a problem really since I'm not hearing it as being too compressed, there's just something about it that seems a tad harsher on the ear. Maybe I'm talking out of my posterior, but is the lead vocal hotter in this mix? I love John's voice, but something about this mix is just not as "warm," to be totally vague.

On the postitive side, the verb on the lead(s) is PERFECT. Nice job there. I gotta' ask, are you using a capo on one of the lead parts, because I'm still hearing intonation weirdness, but only on certain parts where the guits are playing together...like at

2:37
2:46
2:49

But then, at the end, they're in perfect tune (last note @ 3:00). ???

Wow, you're gonna' hate me, LOL. I don't have access to the first version now, so feel free to tell me that this one's quieter, and that you brought the lead vocal down, and that you autotuned both guitar parts...LOL.

It's still awesome, despite what some dingleberry named Chris might say. :D It's just that it's SOOOooo good, you're getting the full on critic in me to rear his ugly head.

The stream kept breaking up, but from what I was able to hear, first-rate vocal sound, silky acoustic guitar, really nice mix.

Oh great. Rave reviews from all but the jerk. :D

Is this why you never listen to my posts anymore?

(totally kidding, there)

Chris - your response was not one of the choices. Why can't you be more like moskus. :D

Actually I appreciate the comments, and I will listen again with them in mind. I think you have almost as much invested in this song as me and Jagular. :p FYI the lead solo(s) was not played with a capo (although all the other guitar parts did use a capo so that I could open chord them). I also don't think this one is much louder than the first, however, the high end is hyped a tad bit more, and maybe that's what you're reacting to.

moskus - thanks for listening and for following instructions well. :) Thanks for the nice words, too.

Slim - I think NWR is having some problems with streaming lately. You probably better off downloading for awhile. Glad you liked it.

:D You guys are funny. and you follow instructions well, too - except for that guy Chris

"Wow, this is much better than the first one."

actually, i'm not sure if i caught the first one....can't remember.......but it sounds great........very pure.......great vocals....good harmonies..............sounds good

....No seriously, the vocal was better this time. Nice job Jag!

Twist

I think I have the first one on a CD and I'll have to go check, but I think I agree with Chris about preferring the first mix. I'm not saying the vocal was better 'cause I don't remember but I do remember that the first mix had more of a 'wow' factor (whatever that is  ). I'll have to check the first one to be sure.
And, of course, this sounds great regardless. very nice work man.

Damn, Bob. You and Chris got me thinking I wasted a couple of weeks of mixing. :(

Actually, I think I know what's going on. I gave the mix a slight boost at 8K. I thought it made the guitars a little brighter (which it does). However, it also tends to give a slight harshness to the vocal (mostly in the chorus). I'll back it off. (Cause I want that "wow" factor back. That sounds like a good thing to have. :D )

powder - thanks for the feedback. (And you used the last of the choices. I'll have to offer up some new ones.)

twist - I appreciate the comments. Did you really like the vocal better this time? (I'm soooo confused. )

toki - thanks for listening again. You've been with me on all of these mixes. (Maybe I should have let you do the bass track with that great sound you're getting lately. :) )

Thanks for the comments on the sangin' guys. The Dachay's did a marvelous job with the music & bgvs & Mike did a great job mixing. It was truly a pleasure to sing with that backing track.

I need to find a band that can play and sing that well and let me just croon away on stage ;) :D

yeah i love this song.....great job the music sounds great those drums....nice.....the vocals ...superb.....nice harmonies...man ......really sweet...i mention this song to freinds and they have never heard it before?? i bet i have turned about 20 people on to this mutha!!...

you did it really well fellas...

(but i didi hear a bit of out of tune ness when the guitars are doubling"....)..

picky picky

jamal:p

The song was put together very well. I liked the vocals. This isnt my cup of tea but my wife liked it. I think the acoustic could of been a bit more brighter, just a tad.....I didnt get a chance to hear the first version. Overall good job.
Myx

great job mike!!..

I have no suggestions on this, as I would slam a synth all over it and bury your vocals and really muck it up. You've got a nice sound going.. specially on the "slam" drums.

Ah, fuck!! I don't know what it is, but I've already retracked them once. They're staying this time.

Anyway, thanks for listening and thanks for the very nice comments, Jamal. This is a great song. I hope we did it justice.

Myx62 - I agree that the guitars could be brighter. I keep trying to "eq" them brighter, but I'm not having any luck. I think the problem is I used a heavier gauge set of strings, and should have gone with lighter gauge ones (it's a new guitar and I'm still figuring it out recording-wise). Thanks for listening.

mixman - thanks. I agree, the drums came out pretty decent, considering they are v-drums. We doubled the toms, to make them sound bigger.

jagular - I posted this "one more time" hoping to get all thumbs up before I sent you a "final mix." Since, as you can see, some of the thumbs were still pointing in other directions, I may tweak it a one more this weekend. I am obviously well past the point of diminishing returns, but that never stopped me before. :D

damn, I would have long sprayed it with cool whip and called it a damned good pie! :)

No wonder your butt is up for an award!!!!
Your vocs are primo! Awesome harmonization! Acoustic up front
and precise but not overpowering. Kit seemed a weeeee bit back in the mix but ample! Mellow, monster-piece recording and perf!

5 1/2 STARS home-boy!!!
