If you don't like the Behringer B1, maybe you will now...

I still don't like the B1.

Nice performance and song, though.

I agree. Cool song and performance, but the vocal sound is very weak.

Sure makes the argument for spending a bit more on a vocal mic. Folks get together and do all that hard work. With a better vocal mic, you'd probably have something you could release. As it is, all the vox would have to be redone - and that's a damn shame – 'cause you already captured the "vibe" and recreating that can sometimes be done, sometimes not.

Thumbs down on the B1. I just returned my review B1 that Behringer sent me several months ago. I told my contact there that I didn't think the B1 was a very good mic - certainly not as good as some other mics available in that price range – and that I would not be writing a review. He was cool with that.

Thanks for checking it out.

Since you've heard the song, what mic would you have chosen?

shAkEz_gk, I think a great mic for rap is the ADK TL multi-pattern transformerless condenser mic. Very clean and up-front sounding. Even though there may be some dirty "street" sounding tracks in Rap and other kinds of Hip-Hop, the tracks are usually cut fairly clean - especially the vocals. And actually the reason that Rap often cuts vocals clean is so they'll come through in the mix. It's also just part of "the sound".

The good thing about the multi-pattern ADK TL is that if you want to do "gang" vocals or background vox, you can use the omni or figure-8 [ bi-directional ] pattern and have the crew stand around the mic and everyone will get picked up equally.

The TL is transformerless, which also makes it a faster mic, which can help all the spoken words to be individually more distinct.

Does that mean people who don't like rap should stay away from the ADK TL mic? :D

Ha! Actually the Polka comment you had before was funnier. : )

The TL would be great for Polka, Rap, Classical, Jazz ... where you want a cleaner more neutral sound. Wouldn't necessarily recommend it for rock vocals.

Yeah, I thought so too... but, then I thought the newer question would be more helpfull to other readers if you took the time to answer it and point out that a mic that worked well for a rap artist might work just as well for a rock, country, and etc type artist also. :)

i'm rather impressed. i'd expect worse from all the bad things i hear about it.

I like the mic to be honest, sure, its not even a Nueman, but for those with limited budgets, if you know what your doing, you can get decent results.

I agree, the Behringer mics aren't Neumanns, but you can get some pretty decent stuff out of them if you know where to squeeze. Nice track, by the way. I'm impressed.

Thanks.

I have decent mics, but, something just kinda pulls me twords the underdogs.
I dont know why, maybe it's the challenge of seeing how good I can get a cheap mic to sound for me.

Ha! You're a gluten for punishment. : )

There are "good, inexpenisve mics" and then there are just "cheap" mics.

Just because someone has a "limited budget" is no excuse to get a "cheap" mic. There are some pretty good mics under $200 - and even $100. The Behringer B1 is not one of them.

i know a few- you probaly already know by now tho.

SM57
SP B1
MXL V67
And it seems like people like the audio technicas in the 2oo under range

dope song btw reminds me of bone thugs a little bit. You should look at the sm7, its kinda expensive but everbody recommends it for rap cause its a good dynamic.

These are all very good mics under $200. After having spent almost a year with most of the budget mics on the market, here's the list that gets my stamp of approval. This list is part of a year-end gear round up I'm writing in Dec 2003.
