Well, the guy openly admits the notoriously dubious year of manufacture, and mentions a possible sticky-shed issue. The guy has/had access to 16mm TV studio film stock (see his last viewable sold items), which makes his claim that the Ampex tape for sale was indeed stored correctly a bit more plausible. He even makes plain that the buyer could even discard the tape and use the 2" reels if he wants to. He's also got 100% feedback. I think you're being a bit harsh now.
Ahem, perhaps you should review the description:
"I will not guarantee that this tape is free of the sticky-shed problem although it is recent enough that it should postdate the manufacturing change that fixed the sticky-shed issue."
Anyone who has this much knowledge of sticky-shed and "climate controlled vaults" also knows the date of the manufacturing change is post 1990, specifically 1994. Yes, he mentions the notoriously dubious year of manufacture and then claims it is after the manufacturing change, when in fact it is in the middle of the worst possible time.
The seller had to address the sticky-shed issue because several other listings of late for new tape have made it an issue on eBay. No, I will not give this seller a pass because he is being dishonest, regardless of any other good reasons he gives for buying his tapes/reels.
If the winning bidder wants this for the tape the other reasons don't matter. And he has done everything he can in the description to persuade potential bidders that the tape is ok, without actually backing his sale with a return policy.

BTW, we're all so proud of you for not selling your dodgy tape on Ebay. You must be one helluva guy.
No please... I can't take any credit. It just doesn't take any effort at all to be one helluva guy in this day and age, considering the status quo.
I don't know who the "we" is that you're referring to, and I'm sure the rest of us don't know either. So I'll take that "compliment" as you speaking for yourself... But thank you so much, Robin... from all of us.
