If ya like honest rock and roll

For these recordings I used a 1991 Gibson Melody Maker running thru a J-Station. Signal from the J-Station runs direct into my sbLive digital input.

Bass guitar is a non-name bass plugged into the J-Station as well.

Vocals are done with a 58 and a Mackie 1402 into the line in on the SBlive

Software used is CWPA 9.0, Native Wav, Soundforge 5.0 and Acid 3.0. Drum samples come from the mighty Drag and Drop Drummer CD.

computer is a Celeron 566@850, 640 megs of ram, 7200rpm 40 gig Maxtor drive and dualbooting with win2k and win98

Sounds good to me.

The cymbal samples sounded pretty good for cymbal samples. I wouldn't have noticed they weren't real drums had you not said it.
 
I must have skipped over where he said it wasn't a real drummer....that is pretty impressive drum programming. I've used drum machines for a long time and I've just accepted the fact that I'm never going to make them work well.

Good tunes. I like the SM58 on vocals...it's a very distinct sound and it sounds good on aggressive vocals.
 
I'd HIGHLY reccomend going to http://www.dddrummer.com/ and checking the Drag and Drop Drummer out. I used drum machines for years and HATED them hehehe. The Cd is only 50 bucks and works perfectly with Cakewalk/Sonar and Acid Pro.

If I were rich I would be able to say I got that tone from recording with a 10,000 dollar mic on my amp. Alas, I must confess to being poor and using my J-station instead.

I would love to hear some your work. Is there any place else I can listen to your tuneage thats not at MP3.com? I hate 3rd party cookies and mp3.com won't let ya download unless you accept them.
 
I liked Burn. Kind of like old BOC.

It's nice to hear such a decent recording coming from your set-up. The only thing I can't hear too well is the bass.

Well, if you click on the tiny rectangular box at the bottom of my post that says "website", that'll take you to our website where you can hear some short, lo-fi clips of some of our tunes.
Of course, these clips don't do the songs any justice whatsoever.

We have some new tunes on MP3-dot-com that I think you might like, just type in a phony e-mail address to get them.

The worse you can get from them is an occaisional unwanted advertisement in your mailbox. ;)

Listened to "Life on the Edge" LOVED the solo. Short, sweet and powerful!

Whole song reminded me of Firefall way back when. Nice clean recording!

Just listened to "reason to cry". Not to be mushy but, it did make things better. Very clean vocal track. ( I gotta learn how to compress), overall mix was on the money. The only thing that stuck out for me was the exit. I thought the fade was a little abrupt in regards to the rythm section.
Very clean, concise, confident and solid tune.

BURN, must be the most kickass, hard rockin shit I've ever downloaded off the web!

I think I hear hints of KISS, as well as [like the previous guys said], BOC and Zappa meets Black Crowes. It's all there.

Production value is excellent, and those are real sounding drum loops.

Is it just me, or is all contemporary music starting to sound the same? Not that BURN isn't an original song, it is, but the direct-to-digital, in-your-face sound of it all just seems 'patent' to me, which is probably indicative of most people recording thru their pods and jstations, directly to their 'puter.

There's just a patent "sound" of line-in-direct, effected-out, direct-to-digital-PC recording. This is a good example of that sound. It's a sound that pervades almost all modern music, and it probably relates back to the recording technology, and techniques used.

I'm not saying it's a "bad" sound, it's just a "patent" sound. Whether that's good sound or bad sound, is mostly a matter of opinion. I perfer productions that sound more 'natural', and have more 'air', or real 'ambience', [not just effects to mimic ambience]. I guess, by that standard, I don't like the sound of most modern recordings, or contemporary music.

Nonetheless, Stickman, very good job! The song rocked my friggin' socks off, and is very original sounding. The production value is extremely high, really excellent.

This song BURN, [original, not the Deep Purple version, folks], is as good or better than anything I've heard on contemporary radio. I mean REAL radio, not this web-radio stuff.

It's, by far, the best music I've ever downloaded off the web! Bravo.

Thanks for taking the time to listen and respond. I greatly appreciate the kind words and honest observations.

I've been at this for years and agree that there IS a marked difference between the analog tones of years past vs digital tones of today. On stage I would NEVER use digital gear. I need the feel of the bottom end moving air around me from my 4x12 cab. I need tubes powering that cab in order to make that happen in a live setting.

However, digital recording does make life easier for guys like me. Using amp modlers you can capture a very close facsimili of a good amp tone and you just can't argue with the noise to tone ratio's these modling boxes provide.

However, it is my belief that if rock and roll is honest, its good. So digital vs analog will be debated for all time hehehe....but if the song is honest, no one is gonna care.

I've know stickman for several years now and I have to say that each recording sounds better and better. Keep it up dude! I too hope you get signed one day. SSgtP and I will be your rodies.

Hey, is anyone else impressed that this was done with a J-station, SM58, and SB Live. Here we are spending all day on this forum debating blah blah blah about this soundcard vs. that one and blah blah blah about that mic made in china when we should all just be making music.
